God be my safe refuge in this Pain 😞

It’s been 16 months since my mom passed and the grief hits in some deep waves . Some days are good. Some days hit tough. But I’ve realized that through most of this I’ve kind of bit my tongue and swallowed the pain in order to keep going. I have memories that make me want to cry and it’s always “not the time or place”. But it has been overwhelming. And I’ve been asking God to just be my safe refuge in this. Help me to not care about any response but yours. I miss my mom so much. There’s so many jokes I want to tell her . So many moments I want to share with her. Being pregnant it just feels so weird to not have her by my side updating her on every little change in my body. Honestly this is the most disconnected from a baby I’ve felt being pregnant and idk how to change that yet…. But I’ve been thinking about how Jesus also wept and how he mourned and went through these same things and it gives me hope .. because I keep feeling like I’m losing time and feeling like so much time has gone by without her but I’m getting closer to being with her again as time goes by.

Revelation 21:4

"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

That’s all I can meditate on. To know that this pain is temporary . That God is with me. For some reason the comfort of people hasn’t really helped. But Knowing That God understands me in this .. has given me a joy and internal peace that I can’t explain.

I wish I could be in my moms kitchen while she teaches me how to make things for thanksgiving. Or that I could help decorate her house for the many Christmas decorations she would have. But I’m grateful that I have so many memories of her smile and her voice that literally make me smile .

I think I can finally understand why suffering is necessary tho.. it draws me near to God and dependant in a way that is unexplainable. In this state I’m like a child again, asking God what to do and truly getting to know him in a pure way . No motives …

I am being refined .. and there’s nothing I can do about it . 🙏🏾❤️

... Read moreIt’s truly profound how grief can reshape our understanding of comfort and strength. When those deep waves hit, especially during milestones like pregnancy or festive times, finding a true "refuge in grief" can feel like searching for an anchor in a storm. I’ve found that while well-meaning friends offer comfort, sometimes it’s that deeper, spiritual solace that truly resonates. The article beautifully touches on God as a safe haven, and I deeply resonate with that feeling of turning inward and upward when outward support just doesn't quite fill the void. The idea of God as our refuge isn't just a comforting thought; it's a powerful promise found throughout scripture. Think of Psalm 46:1: 'God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.' This verse, for me, has been a lifeline, reminding me that even when everything else feels uncertain, there's always a steadfast presence. It’s about leaning into that divine strength, especially when our own feels depleted. Like the author mentioned, discovering peace in knowing God understands truly gives a joy that people can't provide. Grief, particularly the kind that comes with losing a mother, can be incredibly complex. The image text mentions how "GRIEF HITS DIFFERENT DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON," and that couldn't be truer. Those traditions, the familiar smells, the laughter – they all highlight the absence of a loved one. It’s during these times, when memories of an "older woman" (likely the author's mother) and a "younger woman" sharing moments might flood our minds, that seeking refuge becomes paramount. For me, this has meant dedicating specific time to prayer, reading comforting scriptures, or simply sitting in quiet reflection, allowing myself to feel the emotions without judgment, but always returning to the promise of comfort. Another aspect of finding refuge is embracing the process of being 'refined' through suffering. It's a challenging concept, but as the article points out, sometimes pain draws us closer to a purer understanding of faith. It’s in these vulnerable moments, where we’re like a child asking for guidance, that we truly get to know God in a way that transcends everyday life. This isn't about rushing the healing; it's about acknowledging that even in pain, there's a sacred space for growth and deeper connection. When the author expressed feeling 'disconnected from a baby' due to grief, it highlighted how loss can permeate every part of our lives, even new joys. Finding refuge here means giving ourselves grace. It means understanding that it's okay if joy and sorrow coexist, and that God's refuge extends to all these complex emotions. It’s a holistic comfort that embraces our past, present, and future hopes, including the hope of reunion. So, whether you're navigating the aching void left by a loved one, facing holidays with a heavy heart, or simply seeking solace in the everyday struggles, remember that refuge isn't just a place; it's a state of being found in faith. It's knowing that even when we deeply miss someone, like an 'older woman' who brought so much joy, we are held and understood. Let this journey remind you that healing doesn't mean forgetting, but finding a way to carry love and hope forward, trusting in a divine comfort that is always there.
