Monthly Income as a 23 yo Prospective Med Student

One of the main reasons I decided to take gap years before applying to medical school was to have more time to save up money. I earn my income through 4 different sources that help me stay connected to my interests and hobbies as well as prepare for medical school!

1) Private Flute Instructor: I just have two students currently and teach 1 hour lessons weekly

2) Medical Assistant: I work full time at a FQHC as a medical assistant! I love our patient population and the experience that I’m gaining in a clinical setting

3) High School Band Instructor: I work at the main front ensemble instructor and help to plan and teach our shows every season! This position is only active 8 months out of the year and takes about 6-20 hours per week!

4) Social Media: I’m fortunate enough to earn a little bit of income through various social media!

As a private flute instructor, I charge $160 a month for lessons, which allows me to maintain my passion for music while teaching others. My full-time position as a medical assistant at a community health center not only provides me with $2,900 monthly but also invaluable clinical experience with a diverse patient population. Additionally, I work as a high school band instructor, directing shows for eight months of the year, making an extra $500 monthly. Lastly, I monetize my social media presence, contributing another $500 to my total monthly income. This diverse earning structure not only helps me save for medical school but also keeps me connected to my interests, preparing me for future challenges in the medical field. Exploring multiple income streams can be a game changer for aspiring med students, enabling them to remain financially secure while pursuing their academic goals.

How do you make money on social media with so few followers? No offense, just curious. Also - how are you making that much as a medical assistant??? 🧐 that’s unheard of. Most medical assistants I know make $20/hr (I work in recruiting, and with the colleges) so good for you!!!!
