The Four Main Learning Styles 👇

There are four main ways that people learn information and understanding the way your brain works will help set you up for success!

* Visual learners do well when they use symbols, boxes, charts, and colors in their notes. If you find that you learn better by reading and looking at pictures, diagrams, and graphs, etc. the chances are your visual learner.

* Auditory learners develop understanding and memory by hearing and listening. If you find it easier to understand, spoken instructions rather than reading, auditory learning will benefit you.

* Kinetic learning involves using your body and sense of touch to learn. Kinetic learners learned by doing, touching, moving, building, and are described as hands-on. If you find it difficult to sit for long periods of time, chances are you’re a kinetic learner.

* Read/write learners do best when reading or writing to learn something. They tend to follow traditional learning methods of using books and making notes.

What style fits you best?

... Read moreHey Lemon8 fam! So glad you're diving into learning styles with me. Understanding how my brain best absorbs info has been a total game-changer for my studies, and I’m excited to share more insights beyond the basics! First, let's clear up a common point of confusion I've seen: 'Kinetic vs. Kinesthetic learning.' While the terms sound similar, 'kinesthetic' is the generally accepted and more accurate term when we're talking about learning through movement, touch, and doing. Think of it as learning by engaging your whole body and senses – like building a model to understand a concept or acting out a historical event. 'Kinetic' usually refers to motion or energy, so while related, 'kinesthetic' specifically describes that hands-on learning experience. I personally found that embracing my inner kinesthetic learner by pacing while I recite facts or even doodling during lectures helps me stay focused and remember better than just sitting still. For my fellow visual learners out there, you know how powerful pictures, diagrams, and colors can be! The original post touched on it, but let’s go deeper. Beyond just looking at images, try actively creating them. Mind maps are my absolute favorite – I use different colored pens for main topics and sub-points, connecting ideas with arrows. Flowcharts are fantastic for understanding processes. If you're studying anatomy, labeling diagrams repeatedly can be super effective. And don't underestimate the power of color-coding your notes; it helps your brain categorize and recall information visually. I even turn my flashcards into mini-posters with pictures to reinforce concepts! Now, the question 'Is reading visual learning?' is super interesting! While reading definitely involves your eyes, it's distinct from pure visual learning. Reading falls more under the 'Read/Write' style, where you process information best through text. Visual learners thrive on *spatial relationships*, images, and visual cues that aren't necessarily words. Think about it: a visual learner might prefer a complex infographic over a paragraph describing the same data. My Read/Write friends often tell me they learn best by summarizing chapters in their own words or rewriting lecture notes. Both are valid and powerful, but understanding the nuance helps you pick the right strategy! Knowing your learning style isn't just about labeling yourself; it's about empowering your study habits. If you're unsure which type fits you best, try a quick online quiz, or just pay attention to what feels easiest and most effective when you're trying to learn something new. Do you zone out during lectures but crush it when you read the textbook? Maybe you're more Read/Write. Do you love watching documentaries and using flashcards with images? Hello, visual learner! Ultimately, most of us are a blend. The real magic happens when you leverage your dominant style but also incorporate elements from others. For example, if you're primarily an auditory learner, try recording yourself explaining concepts and then listening back while you're on a walk (hello, kinesthetic!). Or if you're Read/Write, after writing your notes, try drawing a quick diagram (visual) to connect the main ideas. It's all about finding what makes 'Understanding Your Learning Style For Success!' a reality for you!
