... Read moreOkay, so you saw my initial post about the gym accident – a 45lb plate right on my baby toe! 😭 I wanted to share a bit more about what happened and what my recovery journey looks like, especially since so many of you asked about the X-ray and how I'm coping. The moment that plate hit, I knew instantly something was seriously wrong. The pain was excruciating, unlike any stubbed toe I've ever had. My toe started swelling up almost immediately and turned a deep purple-blue color. I couldn't put any weight on it, and even lightly touching it sent sharp pains up my foot. These were definitely the clearest signs of a broken toe – if you ever experience something similar, don't hesitate to get it checked out! At the emergency room, after waiting what felt like forever, they took an X-ray of my foot. Seeing the image on the screen was wild; there was a clear fracture in my smallest toe bone, exactly as the doctor pointed out. It was a clean break, but a break nonetheless, confirming my worst fears. The X-ray image really showed the extent of the damage. My doctor explained that it's a common injury but takes time to heal properly. He stressed the importance of keeping weight off it, hence the crutches for two whole months! It's going to be a long haul. Life on crutches is a whole new challenge! Simple tasks like making a cup of coffee or carrying groceries become Olympic feats. My main focus right now is pain management and keeping the swelling down. I'm icing it regularly and keeping it elevated whenever possible. I’ve also been given a special shoe to wear, which helps protect the toe, although it’s definitely not fashion-forward! Now, about exercising with a broken toe – this has been a big question for me, and I know many of you are curious too, especially if you're active like I am. Obviously, my usual gym routine is completely out of the window. No running, no jumping, and definitely no heavy lifting with my feet! I'm trying to figure out what exercise I can do with a broken toe without putting any stress on it. My doctor suggested focusing on upper body workouts, core exercises, and maybe some gentle swimming once the initial pain subsides and if I can keep my foot dry. I’ve been looking into seated strength training and resistance band exercises for my arms. It’s tough to stay motivated when you can't do your usual activities, but I’m determined to keep some level of fitness. I'm also exploring some seated yoga flows to maintain flexibility. It's all about adapting and finding alternatives. I miss my regular workouts so much, but I know healing properly is the priority. If anyone has tips on how to exercise with a broken toe or creative ways to stay active during recovery, please share them in the comments! This journey is just beginning, and I’m taking it one painful step at a time. Wish me luck!
