My favorite Docuseries I Recommend!

#WhatToWatch

Before watching a movie, tv show, or youtube videos, I’m gonna pull up a documentary. 📺 And there have definitely been a few I haven’t even finished from lack of interest. But these 3 are EASY to binge & keep you hooked the entire way through. Here is why I LOVE them.

Pathological: This one still keeps me up at night. I watched this one on Peacock once I started running low on good ones on Netflix. And it did not disappoint. Most docs leave you at the end asking “why?” but this one leaves you asking “WHHHHYYY?!?!”

And honestly you never get an answer. To anything.

If you don’t like stories with no solid ending or confirmed resolution, maybe don’t watch this one. BUT, it is a lot less heavy than other docs, so a lot easier to watch while you’re eating. It follows Joran Van Der Sloot through an investigation and lifelong patterns of violence against two young girls. Fairly short as well.

Rate 8/10 🌟

Sins of Our Mother: BEYOND SAD. This one absolutely broke my heart. I’ll keep it simple and let you watch it. Lori Vallow’s two young kids go missing and an investigation starts as to what happened to them. But the journey throughout this Doc is long and intense. I wanted to punch the screen the deeper it started to delve. Especially because one of their siblings is interviewed for this doc. CRAZY. People are crazy. That’s all I’ll say. Rate 8/10 🌟

Keep Sweet Pray and Obey: HORRIFIC. I could not stomach this one. I sat in complete silence for a good 20 minutes after watching this one. It’s about the rise of Warren Jeffs in the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and his criminal case. I recently heard “There aren't enough trigger warnings in the world to prepare you for Keep Sweet: Pray and Obey” Completely true. This man’s crimes are absolutely sickening and this doc gives you ALL the details. Every episode makes you think, “Oh it can’t get any worse than this” *plays the next episode* YES IT CAN. Rate 10/10 🌟

Please let me know if you watch or have watch any of these and your opinion!! Maybe I’ll make another rec post for documentaries!:) 📺

... Read moreOkay, so I'm a HUGE fan of documentaries, especially the ones that really get under your skin and make you think long after the credits roll. There's just something about real stories that fictional shows can't quite capture, right? When I'm browsing for my next watch, sometimes it's the poster that first catches my eye – like those powerful ones for 'The Program' or 'Take Care of Maya,' which instantly hint at a deeper story, often about fighting injustice or exposing truth. They're not just pretty pictures; they're promises of intense, eye-opening experiences. Speaking of 'Take Care of Maya,' if you haven't seen it, add it to your list immediately! While my initial recommendations were super intense, this one is a different kind of heartbreaking, focusing on a family's battle against a flawed system. The scenes are incredibly poignant and truly highlight the struggles families face. It's another example of a docuseries that leaves a lasting impression, much like 'Sins of Our Mother' or 'Keep Sweet Pray and Obey,' which expose the darker sides of human nature and systemic failures. These kinds of 'fight-the-system' documentaries resonate deeply because they often reveal truths hidden in plain sight. What I love about these 'good docuseries' is how they force you to confront uncomfortable truths. 'Pathological,' for instance, isn't just a crime story; it’s a deep dive into human behavior that might leave you questioning everything. It's a Peacock Original that really sticks with you. And 'Keep Sweet Pray and Obey'? It's not just a recounting of events; it's a chilling look at manipulation and resilience within the FLDS church, a narrative that truly sticks with you as a Netflix documentary. For me, a truly great docuseries needs to do more than just present facts. It needs to tell a compelling story, often through incredible interviews, archival footage, and a narrative that builds suspense. It's about feeling connected to the subjects, whether they're victims, investigators, or even perpetrators. That's why I gravitate towards these kinds of deep-dive, often true-crime, investigations that explore complex characters like Lori Vallow or Joran Van Der Sloot. If you're like me and always on the hunt for your next binge, don't just look at the ratings; read a few personal reviews. Sometimes the most impactful stories aren't the most publicized. And always keep an eye out for those original productions on platforms like Netflix or Peacock – they often deliver some of the best, most thought-provoking content. What makes a docuseries 'good' for you? I'm always looking for new recommendations!
