Drivetrain

The type of drivetrain used in today's cars is divided into four main categories based on the transmission of power from engine to wheel.

1.RWD (Rear-Wheel Drive) - Rear Wheel Drive

This system sends power to the rear pair of wheels to push the car forward.

• Distinctive Characteristics: Usually used in pickup trucks, large SUVs, and high-performance sports cars.

• Advantages: * Better weight distribution because the front (turn) and rear (drive) wheels are separated.

• Highly durable, suitable for heavy loading or towing

• Provide fun driving in sports car style

• Disadvantages: There is less cabin space because there must be a driveshaft tunnel through the middle of the car, and it may slip easily on wet roads (Oversteer syndrome).

2.FWD (Front-Wheel Drive) - Front Wheel Drive

The engine sends power to the front wheels to pull the car forward.

• Features: It is the most prevalent system found in Sedan and Compact cars.

• Advantage: * More fuel efficient because of light weight and low loss of power in the system

• Spacious cabin interior space due to the absence of a central shaft

• Island road well in typical rainy conditions because the engine weight is depressed on the drive wheel.

• Disadvantages: The front wheels are heavily loaded with both turning and propulsion, causing the front tires to wear and may be difficult to control if curving hard (Understeer syndrome).

3.AWD (All-Wheel Drive) - All-time four-wheel drive

This system automatically transmits power to all four wheels through a mechanical center.

• Features: Usually found in luxury sports sedans or high-performance SUVs.

• Advantages: * Provide maximum traction in all weather conditions (rain, slipway)

• Increased confidence in cornering and issuing

• Power management system itself without the driver having to modify the mode

• Disadvantages: Expensive, consumes more oil than 2-wheel drive and has a higher gear set maintenance cost

4. 4x4 or 4WD (Four-Wheel Drive) - Selective four-wheel drive

The engine transmits power on all four wheels, but most are designed for the driver to choose on-off.

• Distinctive characteristics: Used in Off-Road cars or cars that focus on real steeplechase wading.

• Advantages: * There is tremendous torque for wading mud, sand or steep slopes.

• The strongest and most durable of all systems

• 2-wheel mode can be used to save fuel when driving on normal roads.

• Disadvantages: The system weight is quite large, and if the 4WD system is held on the dry road while turning, it can damage the transmission system.

Brief summary:

• Focus on economy, urban use - > FWD

• Focus on Trucks, Steady, or Focus on Fun Driving - > RWD

• Focus on safety, ensure all road conditions - > AWD

• Wading line into the forest, up the hill - > 4x4
