Misconceptions about Tarot Pt 2 🤨⁉️

For those who are interested in the 1st part, it’s on my profile! Now moving on to part 2~

🌙 Common Misconception #4: You have to be psychic to read tarot.

It’s definitely untrue that you can only read tarot if you have certain gifts. I would say this is more of a marketing angle, because it makes certain readers come across as more mysterious or legitimate.

Sometimes, I feel getting psychic opinions can actually create unnecessary stress for clients. (And as a religious / spiritual person myself, I’m uncertain where I stand on the truth of psychic statements in the first place)

I’ve personally visited psychics who made predictions that didn’t come true, or predictions that were so far in the future that I can’t get any current value out of it.

In cases like this, I personally think tarot is more helpful. For example, I once had a client who came to me for a love reading. The context was that a previous fortune teller had told her she would have a lot of difficulty finding a partner — to the extent that her mom became very worried for her. She didn’t share this with me upfront, but when she asked me when she would find a partner, the cards hinted that it would take some time since she was uncertain about the type of person she wanted, and that she was also more of an introvert. When I checked with her, she confirmed this was true.

Because tarot can show you the influences behind a situation, it can give you a better way to move forward. I’m not sure how psychic insights work, but I feel it’s very one-dimensional if you just tell someone they’ll have trouble finding love, since this definitely creates fear rather than empower you. (To top it off, the fortune teller also asked her to buy amulets afterwards which I found very hilarious 🤣)

In reality, tarot is a tool anyone can learn to read with enough practice, as long as you stay open-minded and don’t come at a situation with judgment. Intuition is something you can develop over time, so even if you don’t start out as a natural, you can still become a good reader.

🔑 Common Misconception #5: You need to give a reader your full name or birth details.

You do not need to give a tarot reader or psychic your full name, date of birth, or birth timing. I’m not sure where this idea started, but it’s not necessary. In truth, you can use an initial or even a nickname — it doesn’t have to be your official name. For example, if your name is Katherine, you can simply use K. The point of giving a name or phrase is just to create an anchor to connect with your energy.

Your ‘real’ information doesn’t make the reading more accurate. I’ve consistently done accurate readings for people using nothing more than their online usernames. So please be mindful about revealing personal details online!

🧮 Common Misconception #6 : Tarot will give you exactly the answer you want.

In my time as a tarot reader, I’ve noticed that people sometimes ask very definite questions like, “How can I make my ex-partner come back to me?” This is understandable, because they want this outcome to happen — but oftentimes, tarot won’t give you a direct answer. It will give you the answer that you need to hear, not necessarily the answer that you want.

Since outcomes like reconciliation are usually influenced by more than one factor (e.g. fate or timing, and more importantly, the other person’s will and intent), it’s very difficult to get a step-by-step answer on how to compel a certain outcome to happen, especially one that you cannot control alone.

At most, tarot can highlight what you can do to improve your chances, but it will never provide a guaranteed solution to the specific outcome you’re seeking. More often than not, it will show you the truth you need to hear, rather than the one you’re hoping for.

Ok I can’t think of any more misconceptions now so I’m going to end off this post 🥳 If anyone has any questions about tarot, feel free to comment below! 👇

... Read moreMany people often confuse tarot reading with psychic or fortune-telling abilities, thinking you need special powers or secret knowledge to practice. From my own journey learning tarot, I can assure you that tarot is a skill anyone can develop with patience and practice. It’s not about having magical gifts but about tuning into your intuition and understanding symbolic language. Some also worry about privacy, fearing they must provide personal details like full names or birth info for accurate readings. Based on experience, this is not required. Using nicknames or initials works just as well because the cards connect to your energy, not your official identity. This is particularly helpful for those cautious about sharing sensitive data online. I have encountered clients who came with anxiety fueled by previous psychic predictions that were vague or fear-inducing. Tarot, in contrast, can clarify the dynamics of your situation and offer actionable guidance rather than just foretelling uncertain futures. For example, when a client was told she'd struggle to find love, tarot explored factors like personality and mindset that helped her understand and work through those internal blocks. Lastly, it’s crucial to approach tarot without expecting specific answers or guaranteed outcomes. Tarot reveals truths and possibilities, but it cannot control external factors like another person's free will or fate. Instead, it points to what you can influence to improve your circumstances. This way, tarot serves as a tool for empowerment and reflection rather than a crystal ball. For those curious about getting started with tarot, my advice is to keep an open mind, practice regularly, and not be discouraged if you don’t feel gifted at first. Developing intuition is a gradual process, and soon you’ll find that tarot offers profound insights that resonate deeply with your life’s questions.
