Pic of the day
Had a visit with master hatter Alexander Conely III son. Alex is in the frame behind us with his hat on display. Freddie picked up three hats I was refurbishing for him of his dads. It was a honor to clean up his dads hats. I miss Alexander very much.
Visiting a master hatter’s family and working on heritage hats is truly a special experience that connects you to generations of craftsmanship. When I had the honor to refurbish hats originally crafted by Alexander Conely III, it was not just about restoring items but preserving the artistry and history embedded in each piece. Hats like those from Penutan Hat Co. TK-22421 carry unique styles and techniques reflective of their era, making careful refurbishment a delicate process. During my visit, seeing Alex wearing one of his father's hats brought a personal touch to the experience, reminding me how these pieces are more than accessories — they embody stories and memories. Freddie selecting three of his father's hats for refurbishment emphasized how family heirlooms hold sentimental value. Each hat cleaned was a tribute to Alexander's mastery and a way to keep his legacy alive. For anyone interested in traditional hat making or vintage fashion restoration, engaging in such projects offers rewarding insight into the meticulous skills involved. It also highlights the importance of caring for these treasures, so they continue to be cherished by future generations. The experience deepened my appreciation for the heritage behind iconic hat makers like Alexander Conely III and the continuing impact of their craftsmanship today.
