#healthyhabits #lemon8challenge

Tis the season! For colds and flus… so here’s how I’m hoping to boost my family’s immune system. This recipe should give you roughly 32 oz of juice, and lasts in your fridge for about a week, you can freeze it to make sure it lasts longer too! According to my wonderful husband he says it “tastes just like the ones you buy in the store” which is the greatest compliment I will ever receive from this concoction😂. Just take a 2 oz shot a day for the best results.

Recipe:

🍋 4 inch ginger root peeled and chopped

🍋 Whole lemon peeled and chopped

🍋 Whole orange peeled and chopped

🍋 Whole cucumber chopped

🍋 2 tsp of cayenne pepper

🍋 2 tsp turmeric powder

🍋 2 tbsp honey

🍋 2 cups water

Blend well. Sift juice (I recommend grabbing a spoon to help with the sifting process). And voila! You’ve got your own wellness shot!

... Read moreSince sharing my go-to wellness shot recipe, I’ve had so many of you ask for more tips on making these immunity-boosting concoctions even better! It’s truly become a staple in my household, especially when cold and flu season hits. Getting those fresh ingredients ready is half the fun – there's something so satisfying about laying out all the vibrant lemon, ginger, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Let's talk about the magic behind these key ingredients. Ginger isn't just for flavor; it's a powerhouse for soothing upset stomachs and boasts incredible anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric, especially when paired with a pinch of cayenne pepper (which contains piperine), is fantastic for its antioxidant benefits and reducing inflammation in the body. And of course, lemon and orange are packed with Vitamin C, essential for a strong immune system. The honey isn't just for sweetness; it has natural antibacterial qualities that can be really comforting for a sore throat. When you're getting your chopped ingredients ready for the blender, a little trick I learned is to use the back of a spoon to peel your ginger and turmeric root. It makes it super easy and reduces waste! Once everything is blended well, don't rush the straining process. I find using a fine-mesh sieve and pressing down with a spoon really helps to sift out the juice efficiently, ensuring you get every last drop of goodness. Now, for those of you wondering about variations or how to make it last even longer: while my recipe keeps in the fridge for about a week, I often make a double batch and freeze portions in ice cube trays. Once frozen, pop them into a freezer-safe bag. Then, you can just grab a few cubes, let them thaw slightly, and you've got your perfect 2-ounce serving ready to take a shot! This is a game-changer for busy mornings. If you find the shot a bit too potent, don't be afraid to dilute it with a splash of water, coconut water, or even a little extra freshly squeezed orange juice. You can also adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to your liking – start small and increase if you're feeling brave! I’ve also experimented with adding a dash of black pepper to enhance turmeric absorption, and sometimes a sprig of fresh mint for an extra refreshing kick. Making these at home really does save a ton compared to buying them pre-made, and you know exactly what’s going into your body. It's such a simple yet effective way to support your wellness journey!
