Creating character designs is a rewarding but challenging process, especially when you're still discovering your own artistic style. From my experience, one of the most important steps is to allow yourself the freedom to experiment without the pressure of perfection. Using digital tools like Procreate can be incredibly helpful, as it offers a variety of brushes, layers, and undo options that make trying new ideas less intimidating. I often start with rough sketches to capture the basic shape and personality of the character before refining details. It helps to focus on unique traits that make each character stand out, whether it’s an unusual hairstyle, expressive eyes, or an interesting pose. Observing real-life people or other artists’ work can also inspire fresh concepts and techniques. Patience is key. Some of my favorite character designs came after numerous attempts and learning which styles didn’t fit me. Sharing your progress with a supportive community can motivate you and provide valuable feedback, but it’s also essential to protect your work if you prefer to keep it private, as I do. Remember, the artistic journey is personal, and evolving your style takes time and consistent practice.
