For instance, many readers, including myself, find cringe-inducing nicknames like 'kitten' or 'babydoll' unnecessary and far too overused. This tendency often draws readers away from the character depth that stories should encapsulate. Another common pet peeve is the unnecessary third-act breakup, which can feel forced and disrupt the narrative flow, leaving readers frustrated with character arcs that seem unrealistic. Additionally, there are those who dislike when stories are told in the third person, feeling it removes the intimacy and emotional connection that first-person narratives often provide. Debates often arise around books exceeding 500 pages, especially when every additional page seems to drag on without purpose. Lengthy descriptions can detract from pacing, leading to disengagement. Similarly, mishandled themes of miscommunication can lead to eye-rolls; these tropes need to be executed thoughtfully to maintain realism. Lastly, readers often have preferences regarding book covers. Non-discreet covers can be off-putting, especially for those who cherish their reading experiences in public settings.
