For me, watching horror films is both a thrill and a way to confront my anxieties in a controlled environment. My top 5 horror movies have elements that resonate with my personal fears, such as losing something precious or facing the unknown. Beyond the screen, I grapple with very real stressors like losing my hair and my ability to talk—changes that affect identity and confidence. The relentless Texas heat adds a physical strain, while the pain of losing a family member brings emotional challenges that no movie can fully prepare you for. Sometimes, I envy the idea of not having anything to stress about, but in reality, the stress comes from various fronts like job uncertainties, financial health, and societal pressures. One strategy I've adopted is limiting digital communication to phone calls only, which helps reduce the overwhelming flood of texts and the anxiety they bring. Checking my bank account regularly keeps me aware and proactive about my finances, another key factor in reducing stress. The concept of working throughout life to maintain stability is daunting, but it also encourages me to develop resilience and find meaning in small victories each day. Sharing these personal reflections encourages others to acknowledge and face their fears, whether they're cinematic or personal, and to develop coping mechanisms that enrich life despite its inevitable challenges.
