Tips for safer solo adventures for the girlies

1) Having a dog with you can be a great deterrent of conflict! Most wildlife and people will avoid interactions if you have a dog.

2) Taking a wilderness first aid course will teach you a lot about how to stay safe in your specific locations. They will teach you how to mitigate risks and prepare for the worst!

3) The Garmin In Reach is a great satellite tool to let others know where you are. There's a service you have to pay for but it's worth it. If you can't afford one, at least let others know your plans, including where you're going and when you'll be back.

4) Bring a little extra water, snacks, and even layers. You don't need so much that you're weighed down, but it's good to have an emergency supply in case you need it!

5) Discerning between intuition and fear takes a lot of time and patience to learn. When you're first starting, there may be a lot of sounds that can trigger some anxiety or fear. But the more you practice, the more your comfort zone expands, and the easier it is to trust your intuition when the bells sound. If something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't. You don't need to explain it, trust it, and get somewhere safer ASAP.

In general, I've had mostly amazing experiences in the outdoors even when traveling solo. Have fun, enjoy the adventure, but also take risk seriously!
