Things to do in Beijing this November 🍁🍂

2025/10/24 Edited to

... Read moreWow, if you're thinking about visiting Beijing, November is absolutely magical! I recently explored the city during this time, and it truly turns up the charm with its stunning autumn colors and crisp, refreshing air. Forget the summer crowds; this is when history truly comes alive amidst a canvas of gold and red. One of my absolute favorite experiences was visiting the Great Wall. While it's magnificent year-round, seeing it winding through hills dotted with fall foliage is just breathtaking. I recommend checking out sections like Mutianyu or Jinshanling, as they offer incredible views and fewer crowds than Badaling. You can often find day tours starting around $28+, which can be a great way to handle transportation and get a guided experience. Just imagine those ancient stones framed by vibrant reds and yellows – it’s a postcard moment! Another must-do is spending a peaceful afternoon at the Summer Palace. The golden leaves reflecting on Kunming Lake are something out of a dream. I recall walking through the long corridor, admiring the intricate paintings, and just soaking in the serene atmosphere. The entrance fee is super reasonable, usually just $2-5, which makes it an accessible gem for everyone. For an even more intense display of red leaves, you absolutely cannot miss the Fragrant Hills (Xiangshan Park). This place is renowned for its scarlet foliage, especially the maple trees and cypress groves. Getting in is also very affordable, typically around $2. It gets pretty busy, so try to go early in the morning to enjoy the tranquility. And speaking of ancient wonders, the Temple of Heaven is another incredible spot. In November, the air is perfectly clear, making the vibrant blues of the temple roofs pop against the sky. I found myself wandering through the vast park, watching locals practice Tai Chi and calligraphy – it’s such an authentic Beijing experience. Expect an entrance fee of about $4-10, depending on whether you opt for the combined ticket to enter the halls. Beyond the famous landmarks, don't forget the simple pleasures. The scent of roasted chestnuts wafting through the streets is an iconic autumn aroma you just have to indulge in! And for a truly local and cozy experience, dive into one of Beijing's many tea houses. The OCR mentioned 'various tea houses' and 'teas from all across China,' and it's so true! I loved warming up with a traditional brew, learning about different Chinese teas, and just relaxing. It’s a wonderful way to unwind after a day of exploring. When planning your trip for October and November, remember that while the days are often sunny, the evenings can get quite chilly, so pack layers! Overall, Beijing in autumn is an unforgettable adventure, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, rich history, and cultural immersion. You’ll leave with memories that truly sparkle!
