What I didn’t expect when starting nursing school!
1. To make friends
There is a stigma that nurses are mean girls so I was genuinely frightened by my classmates but friends in the same major as you are ESSENTIAL.
2. Learning on the first day
When I say I was shook I truly was, it was down to business and made it feel super overwhelming. GIVE YOURSELF GRACE!!!
3. To be SO supported
My professors are only looking for my success and are invested in helping me when I need it! Talk to your professors if you EVER have a doubt that you can’t do your major!!
4. To never have time
I thought this was something people joked about and that I would still have small bits of time here and there to do what I wanted but truly you have to utilize EVERY moment of your day to the max!!

Starting nursing school can be a transformative yet challenging experience. Many students anticipate long hours of study, but the reality can often feel much more demanding. Nurses have a reputation for being hardworking and resilient, and this is best showcased in nursing programs where teamwork and collaboration are essential. Establishing friendships early can help mitigate the feeling of isolation and provide a support system to navigate tough periods effectively. Moreover, entering a nursing school means preparing for intense learning from day one. The curriculum is often rigorous, requiring students to manage a robust schedule packed with practical training, lectures, and study sessions. Thus, mastering time management becomes crucial for maintaining a balance between academic responsibilities and personal time. Students should embrace self-care practices amid their studies to prevent burnout. Engaging with professors can also significantly impact your experience in nursing school. They genuinely want their students to succeed and will often provide valuable mentorship opportunities. Creating a rapport with your instructors can lead to enhanced learning experiences and guidance tailored to your needs. As you navigate this journey, remember that making connections with peers and instructors will enrich your nursing education and future career.
