the Shark exhibit at Auckland Museum!! It’s open until June and $22 for an adult entry. Wasn’t sure if it was worth it but the place was wayyy bigger than we expected and there was so many things to read and learn about, to see and to interact with!! I love an exhibition that has lil games and activities lmao. We were there for over an hour and a half so pretty decent for the price we paid!! So interesting some of the things we learnt and I went away having a new love for sharks!!
Visiting the Shark exhibit at Auckland Museum is truly an unforgettable experience, especially for anyone interested in marine life and ocean conservation. One of the highlights was the diverse range of interactive activities that allow visitors to engage directly with the content. For example, there’s a game where you can stencil shark patterns, which was a fun way to connect with the exhibit creatively. Another fascinating aspect includes the detailed displays showing what sharks have actually ingested—items like fishing gear, license plates, and other debris—which highlights the pollution problem in our oceans. The exhibition also educates visitors about shark behavior and the impact humans have on their populations. It was eye-opening to learn about how fishing gear gets abandoned at sea and inadvertently traps sharks, causing harm to these creatures without rescue efforts. Moreover, there’s a segment discussing the aftermath of the movie 'Jaws,' which led to a rise in unnecessary shark killings. This part of the exhibit really touched me, emphasizing the need for protected marine areas and shark sanctuaries to ensure their survival. Another unique feature was the display of ingenious historical solutions like chain mail suits designed to protect divers from shark bites, illustrating how humans have tried to coexist safely with these animals. The museum's layout is surprisingly spacious, allowing visitors to take their time reading detailed informational panels while interacting with multimedia exhibits. Spending over an hour and a half exploring the exhibit provided a great balance of education and entertainment, making the $22 ticket price very worthwhile. Overall, the Shark exhibition at Auckland Museum offers a comprehensive look at these majestic creatures from various angles—scientific, environmental, and cultural. It’s ideal for individuals, couples on a date, or families looking for an educational outing. After visiting, I left with a renewed respect and love for sharks, understanding them not just as predators but as essential players in ocean ecosystems that need our protection.
