Don’t Yuck Someone’s Yum

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how quick people are to comment on things that literally do not affect them. The clothes someone wears. The food they love. The music they blast. The way they parent. The way they rest. The way they dream.

And honestly? If it’s not harming anyone… why are we yucking it?

Not everything is meant for you—and that’s okay.

Some people love early mornings. Some thrive at midnight. Some wear all pink. Some live in neutrals. Some people chase big dreams loudly, others move quietly. None of it is wrong just because it’s not your thing.

We’ve gotten way too comfortable critiquing joy. Calling it “cringe,” “extra,” or “unrealistic.” But joy looks different on everyone, and what lights someone else up doesn’t need your approval to be valid.

Let people like what they like.

Let people be excited.

Let people try.

Let people change.

Let people outgrow things.

Let people enjoy their yum in peace.

This year especially, I’m choosing to protect my joy—and respect others’ too. If something makes you happy and isn’t hurting anyone, lean into it. Loudly. Softly. However you want.

Life is hard enough. Let’s stop being the reason someone second-guesses what makes them smile.

Unfiltered. Unbothered. Always.
