SIGNS OF PROGRESS THAT AREN’T THE SCALE

Ok here it is ⬇️

1️⃣ you’re stronger - you’re lifting more, your form is better, your range of motion is better, you’re getting in more reps. All signs of increase strength which means PROGRESS.

2️⃣ you’re sleeping better, which means you’re probably less tired, in a better mood, brain is functioning better therefore PROGRESS.

3️⃣ you have more energy. improved energy = improved metabolism = PROGRESS

4️⃣ you feel more confident in the mirror. Gaining confidence = PROGRESS

5️⃣ your clothes fit differently - you may be gaining muscle while simultaneously losing fat so the scale may not read what you think but you can tell by the way your clothes are fitting your physique is changing.

Progress does not always equate to a number on the scale and most times it doesn’t! There are so many other aspects of progress we tend to neglect because we become so fixated on a number but in reality that number can be misleading and not necessarily indicative of our “body goals”. ... Read moreOkay, let's be real for a second. We've all been there, right? Stepping onto the scale, heart pounding, only for that number to completely crush our mood, even after weeks of hard work. It's a frustrating cycle that many of us, especially women on a fitness journey, know all too well. I used to be obsessed with seeing the scale drop, thinking that was the only measure of success. But what if I told you that focusing solely on weight can actually hide all the incredible progress you're making? It certainly did for me! The original post beautifully highlighted five key non-scale indicators, and I want to dive a bit deeper into how you can truly embrace and even accelerate these types of progress. When I started shifting my focus from the scale to these other markers, my entire perspective on fitness changed, and honestly, that's when I started seeing real, lasting results. Beyond the Numbers: Concrete Ways to Track Your Gains One of the biggest eye-openers for me was realizing just how much stronger I was getting. It wasn't just about lifting heavier, which is definitely a sign of progress, but also about my form improving on exercises like the barbell squat, being able to do more reps with the same weight, or even increasing my range of motion. If you're wondering "how much progress should I be making in the gym?" – start by tracking your workouts! Keep a simple log of the exercises you do, the weights you lift, and the reps/sets. Seeing those numbers slowly climb, even by a small amount each week, is incredibly motivating and undeniable evidence of your growing strength. This consistent effort is what contributes to long-term gym progress. Another huge one, especially when the scale isn't moving but you feel different, is how your clothes fit. This is where the whole body recomposition scale vs mirror debate comes into play. You might be losing fat and gaining muscle simultaneously, which means your weight could stay the same or even increase slightly, but your body shape is transforming. Forget best exercise for back rolls or 30 day love handle workouts for a second – while targeted exercises have their place, consistent full-body strength training (like those exercises you see at the gym) combined with a balanced diet is what truly helps sculpt a more toned physique over time. To really capture this, I started taking mirror selfie progress pictures once a month in the same outfit from different angles. Seeing those workout before after photos side-by-side reveals changes the scale never would. It's a powerful visual reminder of your fitness progress woman! And let's not forget the improvements in your overall well-being. Better sleep isn't just a luxury; it's crucial for recovery and muscle growth. When I prioritized my workouts and nutrition, I noticed I had more energy throughout the day, which made me more productive and generally in a better mood. And the confidence? Oh, that’s perhaps the best non-scale victory of all. There's an undeniable boost that comes from feeling strong, capable, and comfortable in your own skin. It's not just about looking good, but feeling good from the inside out. So, if you're feeling stuck or discouraged by the scale, remember these valuable signs. Start celebrating those small victories – the extra rep, the deeper squat, the clothes that fit more comfortably, the sound sleep, or that surge of energy during your day. These are the real markers of your incredible fitness progress, and they're far more rewarding and sustainable than any number on a digital display.
