Currently Reading: Black Girls Must Die Exhausted

I never was a book reading type of person. Been like that since I was a child but I am working on that this year📖!

I’ve been seeing this book in a lot of people’s book list and decided to see what it was about since it had great reviews. I’m happy that I bought it! It got delivered yesterday and I am already on chapter 3 but the goal is to finish it of course because my issue is that I will start a book and not finish it due to how busy I can get 🥴.

If you are currently reading or have read this book, let me know what you think about it in the comments!!

... Read moreYou know, sometimes a book cover just speaks to you. That's exactly how I felt when I first saw 'Black Girls Must Die Exhausted' by Jayne Allen. The striking contrast of the dark cover against those vibrant pink flowers and green leaves? It immediately hinted at a story with depth and beauty, and it definitely caught my eye amongst all the book recommendations out there. It's truly a cover that makes you stop scrolling. Before I even opened it, I’d seen it pop up on so many 'blackgirlreads' lists and heard whispers of 'Worth the Hype.' And honestly, after diving into the first few chapters, I can already tell why this book resonates so deeply within the 'blackgirlreads' community. It's more than just a captivating story; it feels like a conversation, an affirmation, and a mirror for so many experiences. The way Jayne Allen weaves modern challenges with humor and heart is just brilliant. For me, getting back into reading has been a journey, and finding books like this one makes it so much easier. It tackles themes of career ambition, family expectations, fertility challenges, and the search for identity, all through the eyes of a Black woman navigating her late twenties. It’s powerful to read stories that reflect your own realities, or those of the women around you. This isn't just a book; it's a window into the everyday triumphs and struggles that often go unacknowledged in mainstream literature. It highlights the quiet strength and resilience required to simply be in today's world. My biggest hurdle has always been finishing books, but with 'Black Girls Must Die Exhausted,' I find myself eagerly turning each page. It's the kind of narrative that keeps you invested, making you want to know what happens next to Tabitha Walker. It reminds me that finding the right book, one that truly connects with you, is key to cultivating a reading habit. If you're like me and struggle to stay committed to a book, look for stories that feel personal, that challenge you, or simply make you feel seen. If you're drawn to narratives that explore the complexities of Black womanhood, similar to this masterpiece by Jayne Allen, I highly recommend exploring other titles that often appear in 'blackgirlreads' communities. Authors like Brit Bennett, Tia Williams, and Raven Leilani often create worlds that are equally compelling and thought-provoking. These communities are incredible resources for discovering stories that uplift, inspire, and offer diverse perspectives. It’s a beautiful thing to find stories where you can see yourself reflected, or gain a deeper understanding of others' experiences. So, yes, if you've been wondering if 'Black Girls Must Die Exhausted' is worth the hype – from my experience so far, it absolutely is. It's a testament to the power of storytelling and a truly enriching read that I can't wait to finish and discuss further. Happy reading!
