For me, it was often a glowing, ominous structure, and my first thought was always, 'Ooh, what's this?' That moment of curiosity, especially around the Blood Shrine, has led to some pretty frustrating runs! My health dropped quicker than I could react – sometimes even a specific 'H 50' hit felt like a huge chunk of my precious life bar gone in an instant. The Blood Shrine in Risk of Rain 2 is one of those environmental interactables that beginners, and even seasoned players who aren't paying attention, can easily fall victim to. What does it do? Simply put, it converts your health directly into gold. You click it, and a significant portion of your current health is sacrificed, and in return, you get some cash. Sounds like a quick way to get rich, right? Well, not usually for the better! Most of the time, touching the Blood Shrine is a trap. Health is your most vital resource in Risk of Rain 2. Losing it, especially in the early stages when your healing is limited and enemies are starting to scale, can spell disaster for your run. Imagine being at 100 health, clicking the shrine, and suddenly you're at 50, or even lower, with a horde of monsters barreling down on you. It's a recipe for an early death and a wasted run. The gold you gain from it is rarely enough to buy an item that could compensate for such a massive health loss, especially when healing items like the Monster Tooth or Medkit are rare finds. So, when is it okay to use it? Honestly, almost never for new players. For advanced players, there are extremely niche scenarios. Perhaps you have an absurd amount of health regeneration from items like a stack of Bustling Fungus (though you'd need to stand still) or a Rejuvenation Rack. Or maybe you're playing a character like Engineer with turrets taking aggro, and you have health items to spare. Another rare instance might be if you're just a few gold short of a crucial item at a Bazaar Between Worlds portal, and you're confident you can recover the lost health. But these situations are few and far between. It definitely doesn't feel like the 'Altar of N'kuhana' which has a clear, often beneficial, interaction. Instead of sacrificing your health, there are much safer and more reliable ways to accumulate gold in Risk of Rain 2. The most obvious is simply defeating enemies; every kill rewards you with gold. Opening chests and interacting with other shrines like the Shrine of Chance (which can sometimes drop gold, though it's a gamble for items) or the Shrine of Combat (which spawns enemies for gold and items) are also viable. Prioritize clearing areas efficiently and you'll find your gold reserves growing without putting your life on the line. Remember, every decision in Risk of Rain 2 matters. While exploring and interacting with everything might seem fun, some things, like the Blood Shrine, are best left untouched unless you truly understand the risks and have a specific, high-level strategy in mind. Save your health, get your gold the old-fashioned way, and keep those runs going strong!
