Today’s lunch for my 1 yr old
She had Mac n cheese, one cut up hotdog, and a scoop of yogurt. She finished her Mac n cheese, had probably half or a little more of her hot dog and ate all of her yogurt as well. She has been working through her texture issues and started eating more different types of food. She was so full after she ate that she started falling asleep before I could get her cleaned up😂
Feeding a 1-year-old can be quite the adventure, especially when they’re dealing with texture sensitivities. From my experience, combining familiar favorites like mac n cheese with small portions of new or slightly different foods, such as a cut-up hotdog, can encourage toddlers to expand their palate without overwhelming them. Including a creamy and slightly tangy yogurt adds not only a good source of calcium and probiotics but also a contrast in texture that some kids find appealing. One key to success is to cut foods into small, manageable pieces to reduce choking risks and to make the textures less intimidating. I noticed that after my little one worked through her texture challenges, she was more willing to try different foods, which made mealtime less stressful. Another tip is to pay attention to your child’s fullness cues — for example, my daughter was so satisfied after eating that she began to fall asleep before cleanup! Balancing nutrition with your toddler’s preferences and sensitivities takes patience and creativity. Offering a variety of textures gradually, ensuring familiar comfort foods are included, and maintaining a calm and positive environment during mealtime helps foster healthy eating habits. This combination of mac n cheese, cut-up hotdog, and yogurt is a great example of a balanced lunch that provides carbohydrates, protein, and dairy in a toddler-friendly way.

This reminds me of the kids cuisines from the 2000s
