Pagan Tips Day 10: Helios

Meet Lord Helios! Happy 1000 likes, everyone. Thank you so much, all, for the support!

As always, I'll see you tomorrow!

2024/12/2 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! 👋 After my initial post about Lord Helios, I realized there's so much more to dive into, especially since many of you asked for deeper insights into the Greek Sun God! I've been doing a lot more reading and personal reflection, and I wanted to share some expanded thoughts and practices that have truly enriched my connection with him. One of the most fascinating aspects is understanding his place in Greek mythology. Helios isn't just *a* sun god; he's the Titan god of the sun, responsible for driving his magnificent sun chariot across the sky each day, bringing light to the world. Imagine him, a handsome, beardless man often depicted in vibrant purple robes, with a blazing sun aureole around his head, guiding those powerful horses across the heavens! It’s such a powerful image, and I often visualize this when I'm out in the sunshine. His golden palace in the East and his journey to the West, then sailing back overnight in a golden cup, truly paint a vivid picture of his daily duties. And yes, the myth of his son Phaethon, who tragically lost control of the chariot, is a poignant reminder of the sun's immense power. It highlights Helios's role not just as a bringer of light but also as a guardian of cosmic order. Many of you might wonder about the distinction between Helios and Apollo. It's a common point of confusion! While Apollo later took on many solar attributes, Helios was originally the personification of the Sun itself. Think of Helios as the physical sun, its journey, and its raw power, whereas Apollo, especially in later periods, became more associated with light in a broader sense—music, prophecy, healing, and intellectual light. For my personal practice, I find connecting with Helios feels very primal and elemental, directly tied to the sun's physical presence. If you're looking to honor Helios, the symbols and offerings mentioned in my previous post are a great start, but let's elaborate! Beyond the obvious sun and his iconic chariot, I’ve found that anything golden resonates strongly. Think about incorporating golden cakes, honey, or even just leaving out a small dish of water or olive oil in the sunlight. Colors like gold/yellow, red, and white are perfect for altar cloths or candles. For plants, I love heliotropes and sunflowers – they truly embody his energy. Crystals like amber and sunstone literally glow with his warmth. My personal devotional acts have grown beyond just basking in the sun. I often light a candle, place it safely near a window, and spend a few moments in quiet contemplation, thanking him for the light and warmth he provides daily. Reciting prayers or even just speaking to him as I watch a sunrise or sunset feels incredibly personal and grounding. He's also considered a guardian of oaths and sight, so reflecting on my own integrity and clarity of vision feels like a fitting way to honor him. Remember, connecting with deities like Helios is a deeply personal journey. There’s no single "right" way. My "Pagan Tips" are simply what I’ve found meaningful. Exploring his mythology, appreciating the art that depicts his majesty, and finding your own ways to acknowledge his presence can truly enrich your spiritual path. The sun's energy is freely given to all, and acknowledging the powerful force behind it, in my experience, brings so much positive energy into my life. Hope this helps you on your journey with Lord Helios!
