Backyard breeders, false marketing
The term hypoallergenic dogs is a term used by backyard breeders to promote their doodle mixes. by claiming that their dogs don’t shed and therefore are safe for people who are allergic to dogs they were able to push doodle mixes into popularity. While, it is true that doodles shed differently than most dogs. It is not true that they don’t shed at all. Instead of shedding seasonal at the beginning of winter to shed their summer coat and the beginning of spring to shed their winter coat these dogs shed all year round, kind of like humans.
Hypoallergenic dogs are often marketed as a perfect option for allergy sufferers, but this is misleading. The term itself is largely misunderstood and misused by breeders to sell mixes like Labradoodles and Goldendoodles. In truth, no dog can be classified as completely hypoallergenic. All dogs produce dander, saliva, and urine, which are the actual allergens that trigger reactions in sensitive individuals. Some breeds are known to produce fewer allergens, but those labeled as 'hypoallergenic' still shed and may not suit everyone with allergies. The increased popularity of doodle mixes stems from their perceived low-shedding qualities, which is an exaggeration. While it’s true they may shed less in comparison to other breeds, they still do shed throughout the year, making them a poor choice for someone seeking a truly allergy-friendly dog. Potential dog owners should conduct more thorough research about breeds and consult with experts on the prospective dog's impact on allergies. Awareness and education are the keys to making informed choices when it comes to bringing a dog into a home with allergy concerns.
