Am I feeding my cat health food?
I’ve never owned a cat before. I have barely any idea what I’m doing!
He’s a ten year old cat that is slowly losing his teeth (I rescued him a month and a half ago).
I feed him two spoonfuls of Hills science wet food for 7+ twice a day. With a small handful of Purina senior cat food(dry) twice a day. In the mornings I gets some pieces of freeze dried salmon in his food as well. All dry ingredients are rehydrated as well.
If anyone has any tips on senior cat food please let me know 🙏
Feeding senior cats can be challenging, especially for new cat owners. It's essential to understand the nutritional needs of older cats. Brands like Hill's Science Diet and Purina offer specially formulated foods that cater to aging pets. Hill's Senior 7+ line promotes immune and joint health, vital for older cats that may suffer from arthritis or mobility issues. Additionally, incorporating high-protein treats like freeze-dried salmon can enhance a senior cat's diet, promoting overall health. It’s also crucial to ensure that dry foods are adequately rehydrated to aid digestion, especially for cats that may have dental issues. Monitor your cat's weight and consult with a veterinarian to tailor a diet plan that suits their unique health needs. Regular check-ups can help in adjusting their food intake and ensure they receive the right balance of nutrients. If you're looking for more cat food ideas, consider exploring community recommendations or veterinary advice for optimal choices based on your cat's specific health concerns.

Highly recommend adding more water to his diet, either by pre-soaking or just adding water. Gravy wet food tends to not be the greatest bc of carbs, pates tend to be better. If you can, doing only wet food would be beneficial for his kidneys (they are the first organ to start failing in cats)
