I Read Throne of Glass LAST 👀📚

I came to Throne of Glass after ACOTAR and Crescent City, and honestly? It might have been the best mistake I ever made as a reader. Swipe for my honest thoughts on romance vs fantasy, Dorian’s criminally underused magic, Abraxos (my heart 😭), Rowan’s mating bond situation, Erawan’s ending, and Maeve being the villain we deserved.

Full video review is on my brand new YouTube channel — The Lovers Book Club — link in bio! 🕯️📖

This is a judgment free zone for romance readers who are here for the smut and the mating bonds and absolutely zero apologies about it 😈

... Read moreAs someone who entered the Throne of Glass series later than most—after becoming a fan of ACOTAR and Crescent City—I found my reading journey surprisingly rewarding. This series intertwines fantasy with deep romantic undercurrents in a way that kept me engaged throughout. One aspect that stood out was how Sarah J. Maas crafts her characters’ relationships, especially the intense dynamics like Rowan’s mating bond, which adds layers of emotional complexity beyond the traditional fantasy tropes. Dorian’s magic, unique within the Maas universe, felt like untapped potential that could have been explored further. This got me thinking about how magic systems in fantasy series sometimes take a backseat to romance or political intrigue, which can be both frustrating and fascinating. On the emotional front, Abraxos's storyline was profoundly moving—his character felt too precious for the harsh world he inhabited, offering moments of warmth amid darker plot points. The villain Maeve was a highlight for me. Often, villains can be one-dimensional, but Maeve embodies a lawful evil archetype with a compelling motive, making her both formidable and intriguing. Her twist added a layer of unpredictability that elevated the story’s tension. The ending involving Erawan and the nature of the Valg possession provided some unexpected narrative turns that challenged my understanding of the series' internal logic about free will versus control. It left me reflecting on how fantasy worlds negotiate themes of agency within supernatural frameworks. If you're drawn to series that balance smut, romance bonds, and rich fantasy worlds—without apology for any element—Throne of Glass might be a rewarding read. I also recommend checking out the full video review on The Lovers Book Club YouTube channel for a deeper dive. Overall, approaching this series with no preconceived notions allowed me to appreciate its unique strengths and shortcomings, making it one of the best accidental reads I've experienced.
