In honor of Mother's Day 2026

My mommy passed away on October 12, 2025, so I have decided to change my profile on all social media platforms for the month of May to her obituary. There are so many milestones for this month that she won't be physically here for; my youngest child turns 22 on May 3rd, she graduates from college May 9th, Mother's Day is May 10th, & my 47th birthday is May 25th. Lemon8 changed my original music, which was Mama by Boyz2Men.

In my own journey, dedicating the month of May to honor my mother by sharing her obituary on social media helped me keep her memory alive among friends and family. It’s meaningful to acknowledge special days such as Mother's Day, birthdays, and graduations, which now have an added layer of reflection and sentiment. From personal experience, one way to embrace these moments is to create new traditions that include remembering and celebrating your mother’s life. For example, compiling photo albums or playlists of songs meaningful to her, like 'Mama' by Boyz II Men, creates a bridge between past and present. Sharing stories about her on social platforms has also brought comfort; it reminds me I’m not alone in missing her and has fostered connections with others who understand the experience. In addition, actively involving family members in these commemorations, such as talking about my mom with my children, helps keep her spirit a living part of our daily lives. It’s a way to find strength and gratitude amidst grief. For those approaching similar milestones without their mother, my advice is to allow yourselves to feel deeply, to share memories openly, and to find small ways to honor her legacy that resonate personally. Mother's Day and other significant dates can be bittersweet, but they also offer opportunities for healing and celebration. By integrating her memory into these milestones, I feel her love and guidance remain present despite her physical absence. This ongoing tribute has not only helped me navigate grief but also deepened my appreciation for family bonds and the enduring impact of motherhood.
