Shopping in Jakarta

Had a 4D3N staycation in Jakarta & here's the places that I check out on shopping.

1) Jakarta Premium outlet

The premium outlet opened in 2025 & there's many international brands.

2) Thamrin City

This is truely the world of batik & endless shops selling local fabric wear. Prices are really very affordable. A long batik dress is at Rp35000.

3) Grand Indonesia

This is like the anchor mall in Jakarta & a short walk from where I stay at Park Royal. There's Central inside the mall & at the time I was visiting, they had sale! Able to get Columbia shoes & tshirt. 2 items at Rp1,600,000. I love Columbia trekking shoes! There's tax refund counter at Central too.

4) Blok M Square

Took a mrt to Blok M Square. See Explore Jakarta MRT. Here's it's like 'Lucky Plaza' feel. If you need cheap optical, this looks like the place as there's many optical shops. However it's difficult to communicate with the local sellers so if you need to get prescription glasses, I guess it's abit difficult. There's also a vibrant food street at the entrance of the mall. 100% local vibes!

5) Plaza Blok M

This Plaza is also connected to the mrt & just at the opposite side of Blok M Square. It's more sophisticated vs Blok M Square & if you love branded watches, there's several pre-owned watch shops.

6) Grab/Gojek

Bought kueh lapis/cookies through the platforms as the ones at Grand Indonesia were too expensive. 3 boxes of kueh lapis at Rp325,000, nicely packed as I left a note stating to kindly ensure that the cakes are packed properly as I'm bringingthem on plane. With that I'm all ready to end the shopping.

... Read moreDuring my stay at Jakarta, I found that exploring beyond the main shopping malls really enriched my experience. For example, Thamrin City is a treasure trove for batik lovers—prices are unbelievably affordable, and the variety is mind-blowing. I also appreciated the convenience of the MRT when traveling to Blok M Square and Plaza Blok M; the easy access makes it a breeze to visit multiple shopping spots in one day without traffic hassle. Moreover, shopping via Grab or Gojek was a game-changer for local delicacies like kueh lapis. Ordering online ensured that the treats were carefully packed for air travel, which saved me the stress of carrying fragile items. I highly recommend using these platforms if you want to sample authentic Jakarta snacks without the premium mall prices. If you plan a 4-day itinerary, consider staying near Grand Indonesia or Park Royal hotel, as they put you close to shopping hotspots and provide easy access to public transport. Don't miss the tax refund counters at Central (inside Grand Indonesia), which can save you some rupiah on international brand purchases. For those interested in pre-owned luxury watches or unique finds, Plaza Blok M offers several reputable shops. And if you are seeking eyewear, although communication might be difficult at Blok M Square optical shops, it’s the best place for budget-friendly options. Overall, balancing visits to upscale malls and vibrant local markets lets you capture the true essence of shopping in Jakarta, blending international brands with local cultures and flavors.

I think I just found my new shopping obsession. 📍 With Love just opened a 3-storey store at Neil Road, and honestly, you could get lost in here for hours (in a good way). What I love is that it’s not your usual mall mix - it’s filled with independent brands from Singapore, Sydney, Ho Chi Minh
