What you do not know about Hextar World, KL 🇲🇾

This is a new shopping mall (opened in Nov 2025) which is slightly at the outskirts of KL. You have to pass 1 toll to reach & to put the distance perspective, it took about RM20 on Grab from Pavillion over to Hextar World.

The mall was decorated to add to the CNY festive mood, so we immerse ourselves into taking pictures, i.e you can see from the pictures.

But other than the deco & a free train ride that cuts across the mall, the shopping & dinning experience were very lackluster. There were alot of empty stores on the ground & basement level & the major tenant is Parkson... I don't have to go all the way out to shop at Parkson. Food choices were equally disappointing. I had to settle for Secret Recipes. But these are nothing compared to what we are going to experience next.

So after walking around & exhausted (we have earlier shopped at Pavillion before making our way to Hextar World), we decided to make a move back. It was also getting late. We ordered a Grab with a 15 min waiting time & we watched it zoom pass us without stopping & the driver canceled our order. Pissed, we ordered a 2nd Grab which comes with a 12 min waiting time... & yes, 10 min into the waiting, the 2nd Grab CANCELED our order too! What in the world is happening!?

We placed an order on the 3rd round & thank goodness, an elderly taxi uncle responded to our Grab order. Thank god! For the moment, we thought we are going to be stranded there. Uncle than told us that traffic to Hextar World has been tapering off after their opening in Nov 2025. Hextar World is also at some cross junction which many drivers on taking a wrong turn will miss this place & be directed to the toll station... hence not many drivers like to come here. After experiencing the Grab cancelations & hearing the feedback from uncle, this is likely going to be our 1st & last time to Hextar World.

Also, when we cancel Grab in Malaysia, we get penalized with penalty fee. But when drivers cancel on us, there's no compensation at all for riders. Totally unfair & even when you attempt to reach Grab customer service, all you get is a bot machine standard apology reply.

... Read moreWhile Hextar World promises a fresh retail experience on Kuala Lumpur's outskirts, my visit revealed a mixed bag worth sharing. To get there, plan your transportation carefully. It sits beyond one major toll, and rides like Grab can be unpredictable, as I experienced multiple cancellations that added frustration to our trip. Some drivers reportedly avoid the area due to confusing routes and lower traffic. Inside, the mall carries a festive vibe, especially around Chinese New Year, with eye-catching decorations and even a free train ride that crosses the mall grounds—great for photos! But beyond this, the retail offerings feel incomplete. Many stores on lower levels remain empty, with Parkson as the prominent tenant. Since similar department stores exist elsewhere in KL, it may not be worth the detour for serious shopping. Food options here are limited too. When I was there, I ended up settling for Secret Recipes, which was decent but not memorable. If you’re looking for variety or local flavors, you might want to explore dining elsewhere. From my experience, Hextar World is more suited for those curious about new commercial developments or festive snaps rather than a full-day shopping or dining outing. Hopefully, as occupancy improves and transport accessibility gets better, the mall will become a more vibrant destination in the future.
