Quenepa’s season! 🇵🇷

Puerto Rico
2025/8/7 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! I'm so excited because it's officially quenepa season, or at least, almost! If you're like me and absolutely adore these unique little tropical fruits, you're probably always wondering, 'When exactly can I get my hands on them in Puerto Rico?' Well, I've done some digging and I'm here to share what I've learned from my own experiences living here. Generally, the quenepa season in Puerto Rico kicks off around June and lasts through August, sometimes even stretching into September. It really depends on the weather patterns each year, but that summer window is your absolute best bet! You'll start seeing those iconic clusters of fresh, green quenepa fruits appearing in fruit stands, local markets, and even roadside vendors all over the island. There's nothing quite like pulling over to a small cart and buying a bag straight from someone's backyard tree. It's truly a quintessential Puerto Rican summer experience. The peak of the season often falls in July and early August. That's when they're usually most abundant, freshest, and at their absolute sweetest. If you visit Puerto Rico during these months, you absolutely have to try them! Many locals, including myself, eagerly await this time of year. The slightly tart, slightly sweet, jelly-like pulp around the large seed is just so refreshing on a hot day. Some describe the flavor as a mix between a lychee and a lime, with a unique tanginess that's all its own. When you're looking for the best quenepas, keep an eye out for those vibrant green skins, sometimes with a reddish-brown blush as the OCR mentioned. You want them to feel firm but not rock hard. If they're too soft, they might be overripe, but a little give is good. Often, they come in clear plastic bags, ready for you to enjoy. To eat them, simply crack open the skin with your teeth or fingers (be careful, the juice can stain!), then suck the pulp off the large seed inside. It's a bit messy, but totally worth it! Beyond just knowing when the season is, it's also about the experience. For me, quenepas evoke memories of childhood summers, family gatherings, and just enjoying the simple pleasures of island life. They're not just a fruit; they're a deeply cherished part of the culture here, often enjoyed while sitting on a porch, chatting with friends, or after a day at the beach. While most people enjoy them fresh, I've also seen them used in refreshing beverages, jams, or even desserts during the season. They're packed with vitamins and minerals too, making them a healthy and delicious snack. So, if you're planning a trip to Puerto Rico or you're a local just as excited as I am, mark your calendars for summer! Keep an eye on local fruit vendors and don't hesitate to ask around – locals are always happy to share their knowledge about when the best fruits are in season and where to find the sweetest batches. Don't miss out on enjoying these delicious tropical gems while they last!

If you’re Boricua, you already know… quenepas are in season here in Puerto Rico! 🇵🇷 But if you’ve never tried them, here’s how we eat them 👇🏼: • Break open the skin with your teeth or fingers. • Pop the fruit in your mouth and suck on the juicy pulp & don’t choke on seed. • Spit out the big

Known as Limoncillo, also called Quenepa or Spanish lime, this tropical fruit grows across the Caribbean and Central America. It’s shaped like a small green lime, packed with juicy tangy-sweet pulp and you simply peel it open and eat the flesh raw. Even though it has "lime" in its name,

🇺🇸🇳🇬In Nigeria, when someone says “NEPA took the light”, it means the electricity has gone out. NEPA stands for the former National Electric Power Authority. What That Means for Travelers: • Power outages can happen daily or randomly. • Some areas have more stable electricity than others.
