Think about those long purple braided hair details, the large expressive eyes, and that cheerful smiling face – getting those right was key! Getting Started: What You'll Need Cardboard (old boxes work great!) Newspaper strips Flour and water for paste (or craft glue) Crepe paper or tissue paper in various colors (especially purple for the hair, black, gold, and white for the outfit) Scissors, tape, string A pencil and reference images of Rumi! My DIY Rumi Piñata Process Shape the Base: I started by cutting out the main body and head shapes from cardboard. Since Rumi has such a distinct silhouette, I focused on her head and upper body. Taping pieces together to form a 3D structure was the trickiest part. Don't forget to create a loop for hanging! Papier-Mâché Fun: This is where the magic happens! I tore newspaper into strips and dipped them in my flour-and-water paste (equal parts flour and water, mixed until smooth). I applied about 3-4 layers over the entire cardboard structure, letting each layer dry completely. Patience is crucial here! Bringing Rumi to Life: Once dry, it was time for the fun part: decorating! I used crepe paper for her skin tone and then carefully added her features. For the purple braided hair, I cut long strips of purple crepe paper, twisted them, and glued them on, giving it texture. Her large eyes and smiling face were cut from paper and glued precisely. I paid close attention to her outfit – the black and gold jacket, white top, and shorts, and even hints of black boots were added using different colored papers. The OCR description really helped me visualize these details! Final Touches: I filled her up with treats (and confetti, of course!) before sealing the opening. Hanging her up, I felt such a sense of accomplishment. It looked just like the colorful piñata I imagined, standing out against a fence just like she would in a cartoon scene!
