What I saw on my walk today
I went on a hike today, these are the things I saw! I used iNaturalist to identify some of the things. I am pretty sure it is pretty accurate but always proceed with caution!! Especially if you are identifying plants to forage. #nature #naturephotography #hiking #outdoors #wildplants
During my hike, I found that using the iNaturalist app greatly enhanced my experience of observing and identifying various plants and wildlife. Notably, the app helped confirm sightings such as swallowtail butterflies perched on hollow Joe-Pye weed, clusters of wild grapes trailing along the path, and intriguing fungi that included species like Dacrymyces. The app's vast database and community feedback provide confidence in identification but never replace personal caution, especially when considering foraging. One of the highlights was spotting blackberries in the wild. Seeing their vibrant fruit clusters reminded me how rewarding it is to connect with nature through foraging, but also how important it is to be sure of plant identity to avoid harmful species. Besides plants and fungi, I noticed spittlebugs, which are fascinating little insects that create protective froth on plants. I encourage anyone who enjoys hiking or nature photography to try tools like iNaturalist. They enrich outdoor adventures by turning passive observations into interactive learning. However, always double-check with multiple sources and avoid consuming anything without absolute certainty. Exploring with awareness turns a simple walk into an educational and safe experience that deepens your bond with the outdoors.
