Replacing Copies of Books

I HATE getting rid of old books- especially my Harry Potter collection since they hold so many memories.

✨These were passed down to me from my brother, who’s 10 years older than me, and the same age as Harry Potter. My brother was 11 when Harry Potter movies started releasing, and he started readings the books that same year.

✨When I turned 6, my interests in the books peaked and my mom would give me the next one in the series when I would finish the previous.

✨The copies are now going on 25 years old and I can’t bring my heart to donate or get rid of them. They feel like something I should pass down to my nieces/nephews/children. But they’re in such rough condition, I couldn’t imagine anything else happening to them.

... Read moreMany readers share a deep emotional connection to their childhood books, especially series like Harry Potter. These books not only provide escapism but also embody cherished memories and lessons learned through the years. As such, many people find themselves holding onto old copies that tell a story—a story of personal growth and nostalgia. The desire to pass down these beloved books can lead to a significant dilemma: should one keep the worn editions or replace them with new ones? While new copies may look pristine, they lack the sentimental value of the originals, which carry the weight of countless reads and experiences. Understanding the importance of preserving old books for future generations is crucial in shaping their relationship with literature. As we embrace the memories tied to these narratives, we also open the door to conversations about their significance in our lives, ultimately reinforcing the idea that every worn page holds a story worth telling.

I kept my originals but still replaced them, for reading. I just can’t get rid of them. 😢
