I finally figured out all my plants 🪴🥹

Over time, I’ve learned that understanding the little signals our plants send can make all the difference in keeping them healthy and happy. For instance, when my Monstera started “crying” — that is, releasing drops of water at its leaf edges — I was worried, but then I discovered it’s a natural phenomenon called guttation. It usually happens when the plant takes up more water than it can transpire, especially at night when its stomata close. From my experience, that’s a helpful cue to check if you're overwatering. I now make it a routine to let the top 2-3 inches of soil dry out completely before watering again. This simple step prevents root rot and keeps my plants happy. I also monitor the humidity in my home because high humidity can slow down evaporation and contribute to this watery discharge. Another tip I've found valuable is treating each plant individually depending on its natural habitat. Tropical plants like monsteras and ferns thrive in higher humidity and indirect light, so misting and placing them near a humidifier works wonders. For succulents and cacti, less frequent watering and plenty of direct light are key. In addition, I track the growth and appearance of leaves regularly; yellowing leaves can signal overwatering or nutrient deficiency, while brown crispy edges might mean low humidity or underwatering. Keeping a journal helps me remember what adjustments I’ve made and how my plants respond. Caring for houseplants has become an enjoyable and rewarding part of my daily routine, turning my living space into a green sanctuary. Remember, each plant is unique, and patience is essential — by tuning in to your plants’ specific needs and observing their subtle cues, you too can master their care.
