how to hang a gallery wall

I love gallery walls that are a collection of different shapes, colors and texture, that have a personal touch to them. With my gallery wall, I was going for something a little eclectic and Southwest/Texas inspired.

TO PLAN

- I bought cheap wrapping paper at the Dollar Tree.

- I traced each item onto the wrapping paper and cut it out

- lay the wrapping paper over the back of the item and mark with a pen (or poke a hole) where the nails go

- hang the wrapping paper pieces on the wall and arrange them until you are happy with the outcome

TO HANG

- with the guidance of the nail markings, hammer/drill the appropriate sized nail for each item into the wall (if an item requires more than 1 nail, make sure the markings are level before nailing/drilling)

- remove paper from wall

- hang and level all your decor

Begin by selecting a theme that resonates with you, such as a color palette or cultural inspiration. Gather various artworks, photographs, and decorative items, ensuring a mix of frames and sizes for depth. Before hanging, it’s essential to plan the layout. Utilize painter's tape to outline where each piece will go on the wall, helping visualize the final display. Consider balance and interplay among items—arranging larger pieces centrally with smaller items surrounding them can create a harmonious flow. To maintain a cohesive look while embracing diversity, ensure the frames complement one another, whether through color coordination or material consistency. Next, it’s time to hang! Use a level to ensure pieces are straight, and strategically secure heavier items with appropriate wall anchors. If you’re working with specialized wall surfaces or artwork, research suitable hanging solutions to avoid damaging your decor. Finally, don't hesitate to update your gallery wall; rotate new pieces in to keep the display fresh and reflective of your evolving tastes. By following these tips, you can create a gallery wall that speaks volumes about you, showcases your artistic side, and transforms your living space into a personal art exhibit.
