A Taste of Puerto Rico - Bay Area ✨

Food Recommendations in the Bay Area

📍Sol Food 📍

📝 : This cute restaurant has 3 locations, one in San Rafael, Mill Valley, and Petaluma. I visited the Mill Valley location and there was no seating. Carry out only, so plan ahead for that. The menu has a wide range of Puerto Rican cuisines from sandwiches, to soups and salads, to large entrees with sides. I had the Veggie Deluxe (photo 1) and it was AMAZING in terms of flavor balance, however, it was very messy with the sauces on it.

Overall rating: 6.5/10 ⭐️

... Read moreAfter my recent visit to Sol Food in Mill Valley for a taste of Puerto Rico, I've been thinking a lot about diving deeper into their menu and exploring their other locations. Many of you are searching for 'Sol Food Petaluma reviews,' and while my experience was at Mill Valley, the OCR results provide a fantastic glimpse into what to expect across the board, especially for those considering the Petaluma or San Rafael spots. One key difference I noted from the OCR is that while my Mill Valley visit was strictly carry-out, the Petaluma and San Rafael locations often offer dine-in options. This is great news if you prefer to savor your meal in a relaxed setting rather than on the go! It's always a good idea to check their website or call ahead for the most current dining and takeaway options for any of their locations, whether it's Mill Valley, Petaluma, or San Rafael. Let's talk about the incredible food on offer. Beyond the Veggie Deluxe that I found wonderfully balanced (if a bit messy!), Sol Food's menu is a treasure trove of authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. For breakfast lovers, the ARROZ CON HUEVOS (eggs over rice) or the REVOLTILLO (scrambled eggs with onion, tomato, and ham) look like perfect hearty starts to the day. And don't forget their unique HUEVOS BENEDICTOS available on weekends! For lunch and dinner, their COMBINACIONES are where the magic truly happens. Imagine indulging in POLLO ROSTIZADO (rotisserie chicken) or COSTILLAS DE CERDO (rotisserie pork ribs), both served with salad, rice, and your choice of pink or black beans. The menu also highlights BISTEC ENCEBOLLADO (thinly sliced steak with sautéed onions) and CHULETAS FRITAS (pan-fried pork chops). Seafood enthusiasts will be thrilled with options like CAMARONES EMPANIZADOS (plantain-fried prawns) and CAMARONES CRIOLLOS (saucy Creole prawns). I'm personally eager to try the MOFONGO RELLENO DE CAMARONES next time – it sounds absolutely divine! Their sandwich selection is also impressive. Classics like the CUBANO (roast pork, ham, mustard, mayo, pickles, Swiss cheese) are there, alongside more unique choices like the NINO POBRE, essentially a Puerto Rican Po' Boy with plantain-fried prawns. Vegetarians have several options, including the VEGGIE DELUXE I enjoyed, as well as VEGETARIANO plates. And a pro tip: make sure to get some of their famous PIQUE hot sauce and dressing – you can even order them online! Overall, Sol Food offers a truly authentic, flavorful journey to Puerto Rico right here in the Bay Area. Whether you're seeking a full meal, a quick sandwich, or just a taste of something new, it's a must-visit. Remember to check their website for current hours and to plan for TAKEOUT, DELIVERY, CATERING if you're not dining in. Have you tried Sol Food? What are your favorite dishes to order?
