My hot take on tik tok

This is my personal opinion about Tik Tok and no one has to agree with me. I used to love this app when I first downloaded it back in 2020 however I noticed within the past year I kept on coming across a lot of false information that induced a lot of fear and a lot of sad stuff in general. I even tried restarting my algorithm and scroll past those type of videos and said I’m not interested but they kept on popping up and I decided to delete the app. Now I feel like my mental health has been better overall and I’m glad I deleted because it had too much negativity on it. I prefer apps like lemon8 and Pinterest! I love to get inspired and I prefer to see more positive things. I do miss the app from time to time but I have to do what’s best for me!

... Read moreIn recent years, TikTok has become a dominant force in social media, attracting millions with its short-form videos. However, alongside its entertainment value, many users have reported encountering misleading information and content that can negatively affect mental health. The algorithm, while designed to personalize content, sometimes continues to surface unwanted or anxiety-inducing videos despite users’ efforts to avoid them. This phenomenon can contribute to feelings of fear, sadness, and general negativity. Psychological studies indicate that excessive exposure to negative or false content on social media platforms can lead to increased stress and reduced overall well-being. Therefore, some users, as highlighted in the original article, choose to deactivate or delete these apps to protect their mental health. Opting for alternative platforms such as Lemon8 and Pinterest, which focus on positive, inspirational, and curated content, can foster a healthier digital environment. These platforms emphasize creativity, lifestyle inspiration, and learning, reducing exposure to harmful misinformation. Choosing the right social media platform depends largely on personal goals and mental health priorities. Users seeking uplifting and authentic experiences often find niche communities on apps like Lemon8, which encourages sharing genuine stories and creative ideas. Furthermore, Pinterest offers a wealth of visual inspiration for DIY projects, fashion, and wellness, supporting positive engagement. Ultimately, mindful social media use, including algorithm management and intentional platform selection, empowers individuals to cultivate a digital space that supports rather than undermines mental health. By recognizing the downsides of certain content and proactively switching to more positive apps, users can improve their online experience and overall happiness.
