Despite everything it's still you
Hey everyone! I wanted to share a bit more about the inspiration behind my recent OC art piece, 'Despite Everything, It's Still You.' It's a phrase that resonates so deeply with me, and I think many of you might relate, especially if you're into creating original characters or just appreciate stories about unconditional acceptance. When I started sketching this OC, I was thinking about how people, and even characters we create, can have so many layers. Sometimes, we present one face to the world, and then there’s a whole other side, perhaps one that seems a bit... monstrous. For this character, I envisioned a dual nature. One side is comforting and familiar, like the figure in my art—a man with a beard and a black tail, gently carrying a smiling girl with braided hair. This digital illustration, framed in a golden ornate frame, represents that pure, undeniable connection, the 'It's you' part. But then there’s the ‘despite everything’ aspect. What if that beloved character has a darker, more primal form? That’s where the other digital illustration comes in: a dark, monstrous creature with sharp teeth and glowing red eyes, lurking in a shadowy environment. It’s a powerful image, and it challenges the viewer, and me as the creator, to ask: can I still see the 'you' in *that*? Creating OCs like this is incredibly therapeutic. It allows me to explore complex emotions: fear, love, acceptance, and the beauty of seeing past appearances. It’s not just about drawing cool monsters; it’s about delving into identity. How do we define ourselves, or others, when faced with something unconventional or even intimidating? For me, this piece is a testament to enduring affection. Despite the sharp teeth, the glowing red eyes, or any perceived 'monstrous' traits, the core essence, the soul, remains. If you're an artist or writer working on your own OCs, I highly recommend exploring these deeper themes. Don't be afraid to give your characters complex backstories or even drastic transformations. Think about what makes them *them*, regardless of their outward form. How can you show that enduring spirit? Maybe it's through a specific gesture, a unique scar, or even just the eyes. Those little details can bridge the gap between their different aspects. This piece, 'Despite Everything, It's Still You,' is my way of saying that true connection transcends superficiality. It’s about loving someone for who they are, completely, even the parts that might seem a little scary or different at first glance. It's a reminder that beauty and kindness can exist in unexpected forms, and that sometimes, the most profound love is found when we embrace the entire spectrum of a person or character. I hope my art encourages you to look a little closer at the 'monsters' in your own life, or in your own creations, and find the 'you' that's still there.
