Garden Pool Remodel!
I'm so thrilled to finally share the full journey of my garden pool remodel! Seeing the 'Before' and 'After' photos side-by-side still amazes me. When I first started dreaming up pool renovation ideas, I knew I wanted to transform my backyard into a true oasis, but honestly, I wasn't sure where to begin. My first step was really diving deep into what I wanted to achieve. Was it just a facelift, or a complete overhaul? For me, it was about creating a more functional and aesthetically pleasing space. I spent hours looking at different garden pool renovation ideas online, gathering inspiration for everything from new decking materials to lush landscaping around the pool area. Budgeting was a huge consideration – I had to be realistic about what I could do myself and where I might need to call in the pros. One of the biggest decisions was the overall design. I opted for a more natural, tropical feel to blend seamlessly with my existing garden. This involved choosing natural stone coping, adding some vibrant, water-loving plants, and even integrating a small waterfall feature for that soothing sound. Thinking about how the pool would be used daily—whether for swimming, lounging, or entertaining—really guided my choices. Safety, especially with young kids around, was also paramount, so I made sure to incorporate proper fencing and lighting. For the actual renovation, I started by draining the old pool and giving it a thorough cleaning. There were a few minor repairs needed in the surfacing, which I tackled myself with a patching kit. This DIY approach saved a significant amount of money and gave me a real sense of accomplishment. However, for the more complex electrical work for the new lighting and the pump system, I decided it was best to hire a certified electrician to ensure everything was up to code and safe. Adding new decking made a massive difference to the 'After' look. I chose composite decking for its low maintenance and slip-resistant qualities, which is perfect for a pool surround. Then came the fun part: landscaping! I planted a mix of tall grasses, colorful flowers, and even a small palm tree to create that tropical vibe I was aiming for. Strategic lighting around the pool and pathways means we can enjoy our renovated space well into the evening. Looking back, the entire garden pool remodel was a fantastic learning experience. It wasn't without its challenges, but the end result is a backyard haven that brings me so much joy. If you're considering your own pool renovation, my best advice is to plan meticulously, set a realistic budget, and don't be afraid to get your hands dirty for the parts you can do yourself. The transformation from 'Before' to 'After' truly feels like moving into a brand new home!
