Hey everyone! So many of you have been following my soda tab chainmail armor journey, and honestly, your support keeps me going! I get a lot of questions about how I even started this crazy project, and what it’s really like. So, I wanted to share a bit more about my process and some tips for anyone else thinking about diving into the world of pop tab crafting. First off, why soda tabs? For me, it started as a fun, unique challenge. I saw a few smaller projects online and thought, 'What if I went big? Like, full armor suit big!' It's a surprisingly accessible material, and honestly, collecting all those tabs has become a mini-adventure. I've had friends saving them for me, and I've even found myself eyeing every can of Diet Coke, Cherry Coke, Fanta, and especially those elusive Mountain Dew Baja Blast tabs! Every tab feels like a tiny victory. The actual crafting process is pretty meditative once you get into a rhythm. It’s all about the 'clippy clippy clip clip clip clip clip' and 'linky linky link lonk link linky' to connect them. I usually start by preparing the tabs – they need to be 'smashed' or flattened slightly to make them easier to link. Then, it's about creating small chains and slowly building them into larger panels. I've found that using a good pair of small pliers helps save your fingers from getting too sore. It’s definitely a test of patience, but watching a flat pile of tabs transform into something resembling actual chainmail is incredibly satisfying. One of the biggest challenges, besides the sheer volume of tabs needed, is consistency. Making sure each link is secure and uniform takes practice. There are different patterns you can use for chainmail, but for this project, I'm sticking to a classic weave that's sturdy and relatively straightforward to mass-produce. It’s not just about adding tabs; it’s about making them strong enough to hold together as a 'suit'. For those of you inspired to try this, my biggest advice is to start small. Maybe a bracelet, or a small patch. Get a feel for the process before committing to a full armor suit! And don't underestimate the power of friends and family saving tabs for you – it makes a huge difference. I'm so grateful for all the comments and requests for specific tabs; it truly feels like we're building this together. Seeing your excitement for the finished product, and even getting those sweet birthday wishes, really brightens my day. I'm aiming for something truly wearable and impressive. What I'll do with it once it's done? Maybe wear it to a comic con, or just display it as a testament to persistence and creativity. Either way, it's been an incredible journey, and I can't wait to share more progress with you all. Keep those tab requests coming, and let's see this pop tab armor suit finished!
