Planning a family trip to Gulf Shores? From my recent visit with my kids, I can say this destination truly caters to families looking for both relaxation and adventure. One thing I appreciated was heading to Gulf State Park for the beach days, as the crowds were noticeably thinner than other nearby spots—perfect for letting kids play freely on the white sands. Biking around Gulf State Park is a fabulous way to explore, and the nature center offers educational fun about local wildlife. I paired this with a visit to the Bon Secour Wildlife Refuge, where spotting birds and small critters made for memorable moments with the kids. Fishing off the piers was a hit, and charter trips provided a neat introduction to deeper waters. Don’t miss exploring Fort Morgan — it brought history alive for my family. For more lighthearted fun, mini golf courses and crabbing at Mo's Landing were easy and rewarding activities. We also tried the Sandcastle University course; it’s a creative way to engage kids in building impressive sand structures. When it comes to dining, Lambert’s Cafe’s lively atmosphere keeps kids entertained, especially with their famous roll-throwing tradition. Ice cream stops like The Yard Milkshake Bar were a sweet treat the kids looked forward to daily. The Hangout offered themed foam parties and a Pirates & Princesses breakfast, which was truly magical for our little ones. On rainy days, Tropic Falls Indoor Waterpark kept the energy high, and later, we enjoyed the Gulf Bowl’s laser tag and ropes course. The Wharf offers a variety of entertainment options including a movie theater and escape rooms, adding versatility to your plans. For families planning ahead, I recommend traveling in late April or mid to late September to avoid peak crowds and enjoy milder weather. Flying into Pensacola and renting a car provided us the flexibility needed to explore surrounding areas like watching the Blue Angels practice, which was an awe-inspiring day trip for the kids. Accommodations like The Lodge at Gulf State Park and Turquoise Place worked well for us, especially with larger families seeking spacious rooms and modern amenities. Overall, Gulf Shores offers a unique blend of natural beauty, educational experiences, and pure family fun that made our vacation truly memorable and stress-free.
