things people say when they realise i’m american

Scotland
3/4 Edited to

... Read moreLiving as an American in Scotland has been a unique and eye-opening experience filled with amusing moments and cultural surprises. One of the most entertaining aspects has been the inevitable curious and sometimes stereotypical questions people ask when they find out I’m American. For instance, many Scots assume Americans are universally loud or obsessed with guns, which couldn't be further from reality. It's fascinating to notice how American culture is often filtered through media portrayals, leading to funny misconceptions, like the idea that everyone in the U.S. carries a gun or that Americans always talk loudly. Another recurring theme is their curiosity about iconic American cities like New York or LA. When I reveal I’m actually from Arkansas, it often leads to awkward silences or enthusiastic declarations of love for Texas, highlighting how regional nuances in the U.S. are often unknown abroad. I’ve also been gently teased to “try harder” to enjoy local Scottish staples like Irn Bru, reflecting the charm of cultural exchanges. One of the most delightful surprises has been joining in local traditions such as a ceilidh, which helped me feel connected and almost Scottish. These conversations and experiences have enriched my time abroad, showing how humor and openness can bridge cultural gaps. Interactions like these give a personal glimpse into the blend of identities and the joy of learning from everyday encounters with locals. If you ever move to a new country, embracing these funny moments can make the transition not just easier, but truly memorable.

This is actually crazy because I had similar conversations in Scotland and Italy! They asked about Trump a lot and had never heard of Arkansas (fair) so I ended up saying Texas when asked and everyone understood lol

I have a 12 year old and a 13 year old still in school, and they both have lockers still. We live in Montana. Do other places not have lockers anymore?

To the woman who has lost her spark. To the woman whose get up and go, has well and truly gone. This is for you. This is to remind you, that you don’t have to be everything to everyone, every day. You didn’t sign up for that. Remember when you used to laugh? Sing? Throw caution to the wind?

When the Role Won’t Let Go
I married a man the world adores. I just don’t know who he is anymore. My husband plays a killer on television. Millions watch him every week. But when his assistant’s body washes up on the beach, the line between performance and reality begins to blur. He says he’s innocent. I want to believ

You’re not losing people… you’re growing.
Big sister advice for anyone going through a season of growth. Sometimes we look back and realize we stayed too long in situations that didn’t serve us, explained ourselves too much, and made ourselves smaller just to keep others comfortable. But that wasn’t weakness — that was a version of you tha
