How to heal your Shadow Part 2
You are not “broken.”
Your shadow is simply the strategy
your nervous system developed
to survive earlier environments.
Some people learned to fight.
Some learned to disappear.
Some learned to perform.
Some learned to control everything.
None of these patterns make you weak.
They make you adaptable.
But healing begins when you recognize
that the strategy that protected you
may now be limiting you.
And the moment you see the pattern…
you can start changing it. #shadow #healing #type #integration #nervoussystem
In my own journey of shadow healing, I realized that the coping mechanisms I once relied on to feel safe were actually holding me back from genuine connection and growth. For example, as a Defender type, I tended to armor up emotionally, believing vulnerability was unsafe. But opening up in trusted spaces helped me experience softness without guilt—a powerful release. If you identify with the Disappear type, you might find it uncomfortable to be fully seen. Practicing sharing your true thoughts and asking for what you need can be challenging but rewarding. This visibility invites deeper relationships. Performers like me often believe love must be earned through impressing others. Shifting to simply existing without performance, allowing imperfect moments, and resting without guilt helped me accept love more freely. For Strategists, control feels like safety, but learning to embrace uncertainty and trusting life’s unfolding is a crucial step. It’s freeing to let plans change without anxiety. Remember, your shadow was never your enemy—it's your nervous system's protective response. Healing it involves conscious practice to rewire these adaptations from mere survival tactics into sources of resilience and authentic connection. This ongoing process has brought me profound peace and a deeper sense of self-acceptance, and it may do the same for you.
