Postpartum Void

No one prepares you for this part of motherhood. Not the logistics or the exhaustion. The void. The space where your old identity no longer fits—and your new one hasn’t stabilized yet.

So most people try to fill it: with noise, productivity, constant input, or rushing to “feel like themselves again.” But this isn’t something to escape. It’s something to move through.

In older frameworks, this phase was understood as a descent. A crossing. Not something to fix—something to be held.

Void Sitting is simple, but not easy: dim the lights, remove stimulation, place one hand on your heart and one on your womb, and stay. No distractions. No performing. No rushing to resolve it.

Just letting your body register: you’re still here even as everything is changing. That’s how the next version of you actually forms. #void #ancientegypt #motherhood #descent #identity

... Read moreThe postpartum period is often described as a whirlwind of change and adjustment, but many new mothers find that the emotional and psychological transition is even harder to manage than the physical demands. This "postpartum void" — that quiet, often unsettling space where an old sense of self dissolves before a new identity takes shape — is a transformative experience that deserves gentle attention rather than quick fixes. From my own journey and the stories shared by other mothers, I've realized how powerful it is to simply allow this void to exist without rushing to fill it. It’s tempting to distract yourself with endless tasks or social engagements because it feels safer than sitting with uncertainty. However, this avoidance often prolongs the discomfort. The practice referred to as "Void Sitting" resonates deeply with many. By dimming the lights and finding a quiet moment to place one hand on the heart and the other on the womb, you invite yourself to connect inwardly and acknowledge this state without judgment. It may be challenging at first, as stillness often stirs raw emotions, but this openness helps cultivate a profound inner strength. Also, understanding this phase through the lens of ancient wisdom—as a descent or crossing rather than a problem to solve—can shift your perspective and offer comfort. It's a natural, if sometimes lonely, rite of passage that marks the beginning of a new chapter in your life. Community support, whether through online forums, support groups, or conversations with trusted friends and family members who have experienced motherhood, can provide reassurance and reduce feelings of isolation. Sharing feelings about identity loss and transformation helps normalize these experiences. Remember, this void is not emptiness but a fertile ground for growth. Accepting and navigating it patiently is a powerful way to nurture both your emotional wellbeing and the evolving bond with your child. Embracing this time with presence and compassion lays the foundation for a resilient and authentic motherhood identity.
