Plain Coon Worm Butterfly Colorful Flying Flowers of the Yard Canal Forest
The simple coon caterpillar (Catopsilia pomona) is a butterfly common in Thailand, especially in areas with coon trees or other legumes.
A distinctive feature is that it has light yellow to pale yellow-green wings with a pattern that varies from gender to gender, with males usually having light yellow to pale white wings and females being fresher yellow and possibly mottled or edged with black wings.
This butterfly is a migratory butterfly that can be seen throughout the year, especially during the summer months, and often bundles to absorb minerals from damp ground, such as along a river or basin.
The main food plant of the simple coon caterpillar, it feeds on the leaves of legumes as its main food, such as coon trees, cassia trees, and plants of the genus Cassia.

ผีเสื้อหนอนคูนธรรมดาไม่เพียงแต่มีสีสันสดใสและน่าชื่นชม ยังมีพฤติกรรมที่น่าสนใจมากมายที่ผมได้สังเกตจากการไปเยี่ยมชมอุทยานแห่งชาติคลองลาน โดยในภาพที่เห็นจะเป็นผีเสื้อชุดสีเหลืองอ่อนกับเฉดเขียวซีดที่เกาะอยู่รวมกันบนพื้นดินที่ชื้นแฉะ ซึ่งพฤติกรรมนี้เรียกว่าการดูดซับแร่ธาตุจากดินเพื่อช่วยเสริมสร้างสุขภาพและความแข็งแรงของพวกมัน สำหรับผู้ที่สนใจศึกษาชีวิตผีเสื้อชนิดนี้เพิ่มเติม ผมอยากแนะนำให้ลองสังเกตความแตกต่างระหว่างเพศผู้และเพศเมียที่สามารถแยกได้จากสีปีกและการมีจุดดำ นอกจากนี้ผีเสื้อหนอนคูนธรรมดายังเป็นผีเสื้ออพยพที่บินได้ตลอดทั้งปี โดยเฉพาะฤดูร้อน เมื่อพืชตระกูลถั่ว เช่น ต้นคูนและขี้เหล็ก ที่เป็นอาหารหลักของหนอนผีเสื้อชนิดนี้กำลังงอกงาม โดยในระยะแมลงตัวอ่อนจะกินใบของต้นคูนเหล่านี้เพื่อเติบโตจนกลายเป็นผีเสื้อสีสวย เมื่อไปเดินทางชมธรรมชาติที่คลองลาน แนะนำให้ดูใกล้ๆ บริเวณริมแม่น้ำหรือน้ำที่ชื้น เพราะนอกจากผีเสื้อหนอนคูนธรรมดา จะมีผีเสื้อชนิดอื่นที่บินแทรกอยู่เป็นสีสันเช่น ผีเสื้อปีกสีดำและน้ำเงินสดใส ตลอดจนความรู้สึกที่ได้เห็นฝูงผีเสื้อเกาะกลุ่มดูดซับแร่ธาตุเหมือนกำลังพักผ่อนในธรรมชาติอย่างสงบ เป็นประสบการณ์ที่ผมอยากแนะนำให้ทุกคนได้สัมผัสด้วยตนเอง
