September 1 of each year coincides with the day of Sing Nakasti. It is founded to commemorate the passing of Sing Nakasti, former head of the Huai Shin Wildlife Sanctuary, who urges society to focus on the problems of forest and wildlife destruction and awaken the current tide of natural resource conservation for Thai society.
Born on December 31, 1949 in Prachinburi Province, he has three brothers and sisters. He graduated from the School of Science, the University of Agriculture. He started working at the Wildlife Conservation Division at Khao Green-Khao Chompoo Wildlife Sanctuary, Chonburi, in 1975 and has always played an important role in wildlife conservation.
It wasn't until, in 1989, that Seek Nakasti took over as head of the Huai Shin Wildlife Sanctuary that he encountered numerous problems in Huai Shin, both hunting, deforestation, staff shot dead, and the poverty problems of the villagers in the area around the forest. Seek Nakasti decided to write a report presenting UNESCO to consider the Overlord and Huai Shin Big Fields forests a World Heritage Site.
Although Succession Nakasti has passed away for a period of 35 years, the spirit of natural resource conservation remains and has been continuously inherited to the present day on behalf of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Species. Let's be a part of the succession of Nakasti's will to make natural resources remain Thailand's precious legacy.

วันสืบ นาคะเสถียรถูกกำหนดขึ้นเพื่อให้ทุกคนหวนระลึกถึงความเสียสละและความพยายามของสืบ นาคะเสถียร ในการปกป้องเขตรักษาพันธุ์สัตว์ป่าห้วยขาแข้ง ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในผืนป่าที่สำคัญที่สุดของประเทศไทย ความพิเศษของห้วยขาแข้งไม่เพียงแต่เป็นถิ่นอาศัยของสัตว์ป่าหายากหลายชนิด แต่ยังเป็นแหล่งระบบนิเวศที่มีความสมบูรณ์สูง นำมาซึ่งความสมดุลทางธรรมชาติที่ส่งผลต่อสภาพแวดล้อมในวงกว้าง การทำงานภายใต้ภาวะความเสี่ยงสูง เช่น การตัดไม้ทำลายป่าและการล่าสัตว์ผิดกฎหมาย ทำให้สืบ นาคะเสถียรต้องต่อสู้กับอุปสรรคที่ท้าทายอย่างมาก และในที่สุดเขาได้ตัดสินใจเขียนรายงานเพื่อเสนอให้ยูเนสโกประกาศพื้นที่ห้วยขาแข้งเป็นมรดกโลก ตอกย้ำถึงความสำคัญระดับนานาชาติของผืนป่าแห่งนี้ ในฐานะที่เป็นวันรำลึกถึงสืบ นาคะเสถียร วันดังกล่าวจึงกลายเป็นแรงบันดาลใจให้กับหน่วยงานต่างๆ เช่น กรมอุทยานแห่งชาติ สัตว์ป่า และพันธุ์พืช รวมไปถึงประชาชนทั่วไป ได้ตื่นตัวและร่วมมือกันอนุรักษ์ธรรมชาติ เพื่อให้ผืนป่าห้วยขาแข้งและทรัพยากรทางธรรมชาติอื่นๆ ยังคงมีสุขภาพดีและส่งต่อให้แก่คนรุ่นหลังอย่างยั่งยืน การมีส่วนร่วมของทุกภาคส่วน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการส่งเสริมการศึกษาด้านสิ่งแวดล้อม การสนับสนุนโครงการอนุรักษ์ หรือแม้แต่อุทิศตนเป็นเจ้าหน้าที่พิทักษ์ป่านั้น ล้วนเป็นการสืบทอดเจตนารมณ์ของสืบ นาคะเสถียรด้วยกันทั้งสิ้น ทั้งนี้ สิ่งสำคัญคือการสร้างจิตสำนึกและความรักธรรมชาติในสังคมไทย เพื่อป้องกันปัญหาการทำลายป่าและสัตว์ป่าในทุกมิติ นอกจากวันสืบ นาคะเสถียรแล้ว ยังมีการจัดกิจกรรมและแคมเปญต่างๆ เพื่อเผยแพร่ความรู้เกี่ยวกับทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและความสำคัญของห้วยขาแข้ง เพื่อให้เกิดการร่วมมือในระดับชุมชนและประเทศเป็นวงกว้าง เน้นการส่งเสริมการใช้ทรัพยากรอย่างยั่งยืนและพัฒนาอย่างสมดุลระหว่างมนุษย์กับธรรมชาติ
