Shining "gray-headed hornbill" at Lime Bay National Park-Khao Tan Yong
The white-crowned Hornbill is a species of hornbill found in Thailand, especially in the southern moist forests. It has the scientific name "White-crowned Hornbill" and is the only bird in this genus.
A gray-headed hornbill. It has a distinctive characteristic of having fluffy white feathers, a crested-like bush on its head, which is where the name "gray head" comes from.
By and large, the gray-headed hornbill is considered a rare wildlife, and is in an endangered state, as its natural habitat is threatened by invading and destroying forests.
The sighting of this bird is therefore a good sign of the abundance of forests in that area.

นกเงือกหัวหงอกถือเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของระบบนิเวศป่าดิบชื้นที่มีความอุดมสมบูรณ์ และยังเป็นตัวชี้วัดที่ดีว่าพื้นที่ป่ายังคงความสมดุลของธรรมชาติ เมื่อนกเงือกหัวหงอกสามารถพบเจอในพื้นที่ใด นั่นหมายความว่าพื้นที่นั่นยังมีคุณค่าทางธรรมชาติสูง ในฐานะนักท่องเที่ยวผู้ชื่นชอบธรรมชาติ ผมได้มีโอกาสไปเยือนอุทยานแห่งชาติอ่าวมะนาว-เขาตันหยง และได้เห็นนกเงือกหัวหงอกอย่างใกล้ชิด ทำให้รู้สึกทึ่งกับลักษณะพิเศษของนกชนิดนี้ เช่น ขนขาวฟูบนหัวที่ดูโดดเด่น และหางยาวสีขาวสะอาดตาท่ามกลางใบไม้สีเขียวชอุ่ม การได้ชมพฤติกรรมการเกาะบนกิ่งไม้ที่สูงของนกเงือกหัวหงอก เป็นของขวัญธรรมชาติที่มีค่ามากๆ และยิ่งตระหนักได้ว่าการที่สัตว์ป่าชนิดนี้อยู่รอดได้ ต้องอาศัยความพยายามในการอนุรักษ์ป่าต้นน้ำและพื้นที่อนุรักษ์ที่มีความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพ นอกจากนี้ อุทยานฯ ยังมีบทบาทสำคัญในการปกป้องและฟื้นฟูสภาพแวดล้อม ป้องกันการบุกรุกทำลายป่าที่เป็นถิ่นอาศัยของนกเงือกหัวหงอกและสัตว์ป่าอื่นๆ ซึ่งเป็นเรื่องที่ผู้มาเยือนทุกคนควรตระหนักและช่วยกันอนุรักษ์เพื่อให้ธรรมชาติมีชีวิตยั่งยืนต่อไป
