It is a herbaceous plant, 0.5-1 meters tall, with underground rhizomes, an outer shell of yellowish brown rhizomes, light yellow inner flesh, aroma, stabbing new shoots when the rainy season arrives.
Single leaves alternately arranged and spear-shaped with parallel edges, 5-10 centimeters wide, 15-30 centimeters long. The bottom of the leaves is often soft-haired. The flower bouquet is stabbed from the rhizome. The corolla is off-white. The leaves are large red. The fruit is dry. It is stuck in the bracts. It has a thin white texture covering the seeds.
