Know the "field centipede," the small predator of the forest.
The field centipede or centipede, British name: Indochinese roller, scientific name: Coracias affinis, is a resident bird found on the Asian continent, from parts of the Indian subcontinent to the Indochinese peninsula, in Thailand found in all but the southern part of Andaman.
The field centipede is similar in size to a pigeon. Its food is insects, small animals, or lizards at times. It is a medium-sized bird with a body size of about 30-34 centimeters. The male and female have the same appearance. Its shape is not streamlined, its body is upright, its neck is short, its head is big, its mouth is moderately long matte black, its upper ridge is curved, its beak is hooked.
The wings are wide but long and the tips of the wings sharp; the tail ends are square or slightly concave; many species have deeply bifurcated tails; and some have tail-style, apex-apex, depending on the species; short legs, short and unstrong toes, curved nails, preferring to be alone; prey of field centipedes include grasshoppers, crickets, clamp-tailed insects, moths, slugs, wasps, beetles, dragonflies and spiders, and small vertebrates.
Field centipedes breed during March-May, nesting in trees around spontaneous hollows, at times scrambling for nests, or the old burrows of other birds to lay eggs; females lay 2-5 eggs at a time.
Thailand is found in all parts except the southern part of the south. It is found at a height of more than 1,500 meters above sea level. It is found in evergreen forests, benjjapan forests, bamboo forests, relatively dense recovery forests. It is usually found at a height below 900 meters above sea level. At 1,500 meters, it is found to be rare. It is found in the mountain ranges of the east, the mountain ranges that block the upper central and northeastern regions, the northern eastern regions, and the upper western forests.
