December 5 "World Soil Day"

December 5 of each year coincides with World Soil Day. It was founded by the 17th World Soil Science Conference in Bangkok in 2002 to honor His Majesty Gathibe, Maha Adulyadej the Great, Phitra, to campaign for the world to recognize the importance of soil resources to the survival of mankind and the environment and the need for sustainable management of land resources.

Soil is an important natural resource, a source of food, medicines, clothing, and fuel production. Soil also helps to develop ecosystems to be sustainable, biodiversity, carbon-absorbing, and mitigate the effects of climate change. Humans use soil in many ways, from housing and cities, to waste dumps, to water purification filters.

Today, the demand for soil resources is increasing. In fact, soil is a limited resource and cannot be replaced. If the soil is very degraded, it will also make soil restoration more difficult. Therefore, the conservation of soil resources is absolutely necessary to allow all life on Earth to live together in a sustainable manner.
