When insects come into contact with the flowering area gently, the pollen stalk bounces towards the petal and holds the insect, causing the pollen to stick to the insect before fleeing.
In the eyelids, pedicels, and back of the petals, there are trichomes that grow from epidermal cells that can expel digestive enzyme to serve as insect traps and can degrade small organisms.

ไม้ทุบหัวแมลง (Trigger Plant) จัดเป็นพรรณไม้ที่น่าสนใจอย่างยิ่งในระบบนิเวศของอุทยานแห่งชาติภูเวียง จังหวัดขอนแก่น โดยธรรมชาติของไม้ชนิดนี้มีวิธีการผสมเกสรที่ไม่เหมือนใคร ซึ่งช่วยเพิ่มโอกาสในการสืบพันธุ์ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ ด้วยกลไกพิเศษที่ก้านชูเกสรยื่นยาวออกมาและสามารถดีดตัวจับแมลงที่มาคลุกเคล้าเกสรภายในดอก ทำให้แมลงกลายเป็นพาหนะสำคัญในการนำพาเกสรข้ามไปยังดอกอื่น ๆ นอกจากนี้ที่บริเวณตาดอก ด้านหลังของกลีบดอก และก้านดอก ยังมีเส้นขนที่ผลิตเอนไซม์ชนิดพิเศษซึ่งช่วยในการเหนี่ยวจับและย่อยสลายแมลงขนาดเล็ก ถือเป็นกลไกในการหาอาหารเสริมหรือช่วยในกระบวนการทางโภชนาการของพรรณไม้ชนิดนี้ ไม้ทุบหัวแมลง สกุล Stylidium kunthii มีบทบาทสำคัญในระบบนิเวศของผืนป่าภูเวียง โดยร่วมสร้างสมดุลแก่ประชากรแมลง และประสานกับการเจริญเติบโตของพืชพันธุ์อื่น ๆ ในพื้นที่เดียวกัน หากคุณมีโอกาสไปเยือนอุทยานแห่งชาติภูเวียง อย่าลืมสังเกตไม้ชนิดนี้อย่างละเอียด เพราะนอกจากจะได้เห็นความงดงามทางธรรมชาติแล้ว ยังเป็นการเรียนรู้ถึงวิวัฒนาการและกลไกที่พรรณไม้ใช้เอาชีวิตรอดและขยายพันธุ์ในธรรมชาติอย่างชาญฉลาด ภาพถ่ายสวยงามและข้อมูลทางวิชาการนี้เป็นผลงานของทีมวิจัยพรรณไม้จากมหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่นซึ่งเผยให้เห็นถึงความมหัศจรรย์ของต้นไม้ชนิดนี้ในเขตอุทยานแห่งชาติภูเวียง จังหวัดขอนแก่น อย่างแท้จริง
